Best mod yet: today in my 4Runner I took my wife to the hospital for the birth of my new daughter! Momma and baby doing great.

Have you been enjoying sleeping through the night and quiet peaceful days? The baby arrived to chage all that. We are slow learners, we did it 3 times.

Finally got around to wiring up the ditch lights and installing the AOB switch. The switch is really nice and matches the dash color. I also switched out my P rated 285 Toyo Open Country AT II's for the 10 ply AT II's. Kudos to Les Schwab for returning them at full price.

Threw on my diff skid to protect those fresh new gear/locker/master diff rebuild kits install and then my new shocks arrived. These Kings are huge in person. Giggled like a little school girl when I opened the box.

Hahaha right? Too much going on with it right now. I'll update it once everything else is on so it's legit but until then, I don't like to put things in there until they're complete. But these front end parts are seriously impressive when seen in person. The pictures do them no justice.

Lessons Learned

Took me a few days to get the guts to post this. Hopefully you'll all go easy on me.

I learned some valuable lessons last weekend. First, always trust your spotter and not your instincts. Second, those Nitto M/T tires can crawl up a freakin' cliff.... and push you down the other side! And third, take it easier on the throttle in these situations.

Somehow my undies stayed completely white during this entire event. And no damage done at all to my baby.

For what it's worth, I was pulled out by a fellow Toyota...not a Land Rover or Jeep.

That's a great video. I thought the worst was over and I was slightly disappointed and then it got to the good part. I'm glad it ended well.

Well, the person who made the video wasn't exactly correct in the "first timer" piece. This is the first I've had the 4Runner out on a serious trail with the 3" lift and Nitto Trail Grapplers. I've got a little experience off-roading but still have a lot to learn about negotiating obstacles and knowing my vehicle.

I made two mistakes... turning left into the hillside which did nothing but push me outward, and too much throttle. I know how to go slow, however in that particular situation, the 2 guys who made it over before me said to gas it if I felt myself slipping sideways. So my brain was ready for that, which was wrong.

For what its worth, that is IMO the worst type of "trail" situation, narrow, vertical uphill side, and passenger-side drop off. I am really surprised anyone suggested that you "punch it" "if this happens" in that situation.
