I was thinking about heading out there Saturday but decided to go trail riding. Should have went to Barton cause I sliced my ankle while on the trail...

Yeah, it was a perfect weekend for it. I haven't seen that much water down there in 3 years, and I've never seen that many cars parked at all entrances (MoPac, Scottish Woods, Lost Creek)

Departed the home lodge at o'dark thirty and even with a quick stop at the Madras Air Museum was at the CVT back door in Bend when they opened. Toured the showroom and help Robert install my new CVT awning, then hit Camp Sherman for lunch and some fishing. 100 degrees and Green Drakes were popping! Home late to scrape off the bugs and flush the red dust out of everything.

Very cool! Robert at CVT is a good guy. Did he get a 4R yet? He helped me install our rack, and was drooling over the '14 we have. It's nothing compared to most 4Rs on here, but he really really wanted to trade in his Tacoma! Where abouts in OR you from?

Rode home from my grandmother's house back to my parents. I always laugh crossing this "bridge to a cliff." The first time I tried to cross this, I turned around thinking I had made a wrong turn somewhere.

Tomorrow I head to home to Oklahoma, this past week having covered OK, MO, IL, KY, TN, NC, and VA.

Hahaha, I have tried to make it up there 2 years in a row. First year we left in May and there was no way and last year we went in June and made it about a mile and a half out and just camped there for the night. This year, we will go in June hoping to make it.

There's a part that is pretty sketchy heading up to the lake that's all shale rock. My buddy tried to turn his jeep around and almost flipped it down a hill after he started sliding. I'm interested to see how difficult it is to make it all the way up there.

I've never been to the top, first time on the trail. I hope to try again in the first week of July or the 27th of this month. But, this is a trail report from last year....We did some of the Empire loop and ran into more of the same. It's a fun little area. There's a really steep and lose section that turned out to be a great place to try out the crawl control.


7/12/14 - Open all the way.Some mud and still lots of snow to look at, but the trail is finally clear all the way to the lake. There was only one tight spot that it appears people just snow bashed through a snow drift to make it passable now, but anyone can get by it.
6/29/14 - Bill Moore lake still has large snow drifts preventing you from reaching the lake itself. Deep snow at the top of Bill Moore Lake. You can drive close enough to hike in.

Went and checked out Winnemucca Lake (usually dry) just east of Pyramid Lake. After several days of heavy rain (weathermen and general news media won't admit it is alleviating the drought a bit). It had water from end to end (24 miles of it). Not deep but I had never seen it so wet before.

What I did - Was thankful I bought some rock sliders:

Parked to offload some gear, and some lady in a BRAND NEW mercedes parks right next to me. Of course she's on the phone, with her coffee, and she doesn't even look before swinging her driver's door out full bore. SMACK against my right rock slider, leaving a softball sized dent in her door.

She begins flipping her shit as I walk out (barely a mark on the powder coating, haha), as she's essentially rage crying. She's so upset, that she's trying to get my insurance information, then she gets it in her head (a gamble perhaps) to claim the rock sliders are somehow illegal. She calls the cop while I and witnesses are just dumbfounded.

Cops show up 5 minutes later, take one look at the situation, compliment me on the 4Runner, and then drive off. She struck me (pardon the pun) as the kind of person who had I not had the rock sliders, and had bashed my door, would have driven off without leaving any information.
