What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

I got one Shrockworks slider-step installed this weekend. Then, my wife (who's very pregnant at the moment), found something "more important" for me to do....so I guess I'll be driving around lop-sided for a couple days.

Looks good so far though!

Looks great KC!
Was it a fairly simple instal?
You have any pics of the back with the door open?

Hit a deer doing 45+... F***er came outta nowhere. Unfortunately it obliterated my passanger side DRL - so just had to order a new one and will install later this week. Any tips for replacing these.. I know its kinda a PITA to get to from inside the wheel wells so any words of wisdom would be much apreciated

If you are not too busy taking care of the most important thing to happens in ones life :D ...When you ordered those up, what did you specify for get the style/step/ect? Was there a template stashed away somewhere? I really would like to get something similar, my dog has a hard time jumping in without running boards (like I had on my last t4r) and most sliders look like he could slip a paw through and hurt himself.

Yes, I basically described what I had in mind and they showed me a couple options based on some FJ slider steps they had done previously. PM Shrockworks or TxBxSx and they'll help you out. They're very nice and easy to work with. And, of course, fit-and-finish is superb.

After FOUR damn hours....success!!! (on one side :()

Thanks to Antman for the front spacer install write up, the guide has been wonderful so far

Also, not that it matters to me anymore since it's going in the trash but after only 1yr/10k, I am kind of disappointed at my front right shock:

Left side is completely dry. Would you guys say this is a bit more than seepage than normal?

Anyways, be back in 4 hours after I remove one more shock, lol :)

No problem on the writeup- thank Sp8 too!

The stock shocks are garbage so the leak is no surprise.

Um...if it took 4 hrs to remove one shock (which is the easy part) I guess you have about 20 hrs worth of work left.:wow:

Have fun?

Super! Thanks for the direction! Keeping my eyes peeled to see the other side done.

All the best :)

It is also no surprise that it was the right side, I always seem to mess things up on my blinder side much more so than the see-er side :)

Looking forward to putting a leveler on mine as well. Which leads me to ask (if it is not too off-topic), I see a lot of people do Bilstein 5100's on all fours and do 1.75" in the front and a 1" spacer in the rear. Why is this? Is it more reliable to have the spacer in the rear than bring the Bilsteins up to 0.85"? Out of all of the builds I have looked into in the last couple of months no one has ever explained or given reason for this. Can anyone be so kind to enlighten this unenlightened one?

Well, the 4 hours included me putzing around with the front KDSS sway bar for over an hour trying to figure out what is the best way to go about disconnecting it and then finally realizing I should've disconnected it while it was still on the ground (requiring me to drop the truck back down and then jack it up again and throw it on the jack stands). Clearly planning ahead is not my forte, lol.

Anyway, yeah I think the leaking shock is actually more than just seeping; when I took it off, fresh fluid dripped on the ground while I was holding it. Granted I fly over speed bumps like nobody's business, I still am a bit disappointed that they leaked so soon!

The second shock came out much faster (~30 mins or less) :)

Out with the old:

A nice blank canvas to work on:

To be continued tomorrow

I do believe this is all just personal preference and/or the "more is better" mentality, lol.

Technically, no spacer out back would be a wee bit more reliable since it would just be one solid spring and that's it. But no worries, i highly doubt either way is any less reliable. Just go with whatever overall height you want to achieve for your rig :)

Because I was too lazy to work on the truck more last night, I instead wasted my time lining up all the parts for a group photo before it gets installed, lol. :loco:

After another 5-6 hours of wrenching, the front is finally done...sort of, I still need to connect the KDSS sway bar back up and throw on the LR UCAs after I give it a test drive to make sure everything I've done so far is good.

The required glamour shot of the goods (5100s @ OME 883):

I am     that it settles, lol:

I promise I will take some non-antman inspired pictures once I am done buttoning it up. I am very glad it was a productive day, hopefully I can get around to the rear this week too :bigok:

Curious why you didn't remove/replace the UCA's at the same time. Much easier to remove/replace the coilover with the UCA out of the way.

Paddle Holster with Glock 30

So I travel primarily on my own and after a recent encounter with three idiots in a single cab GMC, I thought it was time to mount my .45 in my center console. I used my paddle holster (which happened to be on my body at the time) and it fits like a glove. As you can see the subcompact Glock 30 fits unbelievably well and can still be drawn extremely quickly. I'm not going to get into the overall details of the encounter, other than it was midnight, I was in the middle of nowhere camping, and the conversation ended very quickly when one of them said "I want those lights"...referring to my light bar. I do believe that the best way to avoid confrontation is to avoid confrontation...(if that makes sense) I never look for a fight, but when one presents itself...BE READY for anything. I will say this...I spent 12 years as a Recon Marine and they were lucky I was a good mood.
