Hit some trails over the weekend with the New England crew. 1st through 5th gen runners. Always a fun time. Also got my first real trail damage on my driver door:hurt:

Leave the mud on it hides the dent and scrape. Looks like you had fun and at least you didn't get the dent in a parking lot.

Got a screw in the outer edge of my A/T tire. A plug and patch won't work because it's right at the start of the curve of the sidewalk.

And I didn't get the lifetime coverage because I have NEVER needed it.

But it looks like I'm going to end up getting a new tire this weekend.

On another note I was out at Lime Rock Park with some friends over the weekend helping them plan a Land Rover event out there. It was quite the experience being out there with two vehicles that are completely unsuited for the venue. Other vehicle was a Discovery G40. Highlight was getting through a Land Rover Training Course in the 4Runner with less drama than the LR. I'm guessing the wheelbase helped some there.

I was driving down the road when an IDIOT decided that he needed to pass me and then make a hard right turn without using his blinker. Needless to say I hit the brakes. When I did the "brake assist" (I'm not sure what the technical term is) kicked in and all 4 tires locked up and I came to a screaching halt. If you haven't experienced this in your 4runner, have fun....it's a little unnerving.

I bought two things at the dealership yesterday.

1) TRD Shift Knob $90...no biggie.

The second item might be interesting for the entire group.

2) Sun Visor from a 2008/9 4th Gen. The Sunvisors in those trucks not only fold down and move around but pull out to provide extended coverage that doesn't exist in the 5th Gen. $211 for the drivers side. I only bought one to test. If it works I'll buy the second one.

I'm glad I am not the only one that has experienced this. It has happened to me twice now in 2 months. I don't know how much I trust the brakes. They just lock up and then I slide to a stop. Doesn't seem very safe. I've been thinking about taking it in to have it looked at.

Happened to me the other week, I call them SuperBrakes. A semi stopped suddenly, couldn't tell what happened but something must have pulled in from tot him. However, mine kicked in but so did traction control and I had a very controlled deceleration.. I don't know what to say, probably should have have your looked at.

No. The brakes do not "lock up" the tires. [MENTION=93894]J-BlickPhoto[/MENTION] is correct that it is unnerving when you first experience it as it stops RIGHT NOW. It does not slide the tires though. I have done this several times and a few times on purpose just for test. In a full lock up, you cannot steer as the tires are not rotating. With the 4Runner, even when the brake assist kicks in, you can still steer. It will even leave black marks on the road but it does not lock up completely. I suggest that if yours is locking up you take it to the dealer immediately.

Went up to Red Bluff on business. I got there a little early so spent some time checking out the town and found this little bbq place called the Palomino Room.. I saw the smoker going in back and figured it was a good sign. Waitress said the building dates back to the 1860s and had all sorts of ghost stories. Food was tasty, I'd go back again if in town.

I just got back into my wheeling season for the same reason lol. My friends have been going quite often but I was always at the mountain. Sounds good though and we'd be glad to have you tag along.

As it's my daily driver, I used it for work to travel down into CT and then to Toyota to order parts for my rear diff breather mod. I'll have to tackle it next weekend.
