used plastidip for the first time!

anyone know how to make nice lines with plastidip? i spent alot of time getting tape off and could not make a decent line.... looks ok from 10ft but close up not so great

get some really thin blue tape that's used for pinstriping..maybe some 1/4 pinstriping tape

paint where you're going to paint, on the edge don't go as thick

peel that off when the plastidip is still wet, so the line will be a lot crisper

if you wait too long, when you pull the tape it will peel up some

There have been quite a few posts about PD. If you search using the Google method up in the stickies, there's a lot to read. Also lots of Utubes, and this Coatings and Adhesives, Rubber and Plastic Coatings | Plasti Dip Interntional

I don't know the '14s front, but PD doesn't make sharp lines well with just tape. It separates well when there is a transition from one surface to another, like where the rear wing sits on the surface of the rear door, or where the "4RUNNER" letters sit on that wing, or the "SR5/LIMITED" logos sit on the body.

You *might* get a better line if you ran an Xacto blade along the tape edge, but I wouldn't count on it. PD is amazing stuff, but separating at a tape line isn't one of its attributes. I tried it unsuccessfully, twice.

I DO like your paint scheme btw....

I used some 1/4in vinyl pinstriping tape to do my lines. Then used blue tape and paper over that for the rest of the masking. Then after dipping, I used an Exacto knife VERY CAREFULLY to cut along the inner edge of the pinstripe tape and then peeled the entire thing off.

The vinyl allows you to make perfect curves with no squared off jinks like you would get with blue tape. There may be some other tape types that also do the same thing, I just happen to have a couple big rolls of the stuff for my model building

The problem of getting a clean peal off is the same as any tape which is why I went the surgical Exacto method. You want to cut through most of the dip but not your paint!

Started the move from Va Beach to Ventura, CA. All 5 tons of us!

Spent $4.50 and took four minutes to position and attach a battery-powered magnetic LED light under the hood. Cheap, simple and surprisingly effective.
Also went for a drive after parking the 4R at the end of June. Forgot how wonderful it feels!

Spent about 3 hours wrapping my hood with matte black vinyl. It was a little harder than it looked watching the guy from 3M on the youtube videos :crazy:

Doesn't look great, got a couple of creases and a tiny tear, not that the paint looked any better. Looking forward to less glare from the sun off the faux hood scoop.

Kept the eco light on all day! Got 18.5mpg in split driving, vs my normal 15.8... Got honked at 2 times, passed by a Prius as I "accelerated" from a light. NO ONE would drive behind me.

Not much compared to the other posts today -- changed interior lights over to LEDs. Could not get one map light out, broke it trying. Gives me something for tomorrow.

Wanted to change the lights at the bottom of the doors too but the LEDs won't fit due to extra supports to keep the bulbs in.
