Speaking of winch - Anyone else run in the desert that can speak to the usefulness of a winch? We don't have many anchor points around. This was the first time I ever got stuck, too. I suppose another vehicle would be good to winch to. That's what the come along is for though - plus it's a few grand cheaper. Hey, everyone's got a budget..

Failure to obey traffic control device (road closed barricade. One was moved out of the way, but it was still pretty clear) and trespassing since I was (barely) in city limits driving in the wash. Bleh.

I have one pic, but it just looks like the truck is parked on a wash with a stream running under it. Not very exciting looking.

When I was trying to get things freed up, the sun had set, and I heard then saw a pack of coyotes (their eyes shining back at my headlamp), things got a little more exciting. They went a different direction though.

A winch anchor can help is some situations, including sand.

An old timey trick that takes a bit of back breaking work is, bury your spare tire completely, as deep as you can dig it down (With the winch rope attached to it of course) and you can winch out that way.

I just recently bought a used winch anchor off a guy since I do a lot of desert offroading There are several out there but apparently though testing, there is only one that really works well called "Pull Pal"

I checked it out. Looks like an impressive piece of kit.
Wonder if it would actually work in nothing but feet and feet of desert wash sand.

Ordered some White Knuckle Offroad DOM sliders in black powder coat. John at White Knuckle was super easy to place and order with and very helpful. Said he should have them ready to go in 3 weeks or so.

Wonder if it would actually work in nothing but feet and feet of desert wash sand.

I haven't had the chance to try it myself but before I got it I did look for examples of people using it. There are several videos of people using it not only on wash sand but full on sand dunes.

It apparently buries itself pretty good in that case Need a good strap attached to it to pull it back out of the sand when your done.

Went up in the mountains to go snow shoeing with the dog. Snow was really wet and deep - ended up getting stuck once and had to dig out. AT tires suck in this kind of stuff...

What lift/tire/susp combo? Those are FN Five Stars in 16x8 correct? And obviously they clear the calipers just fine??

Congrats! I have a HAM amateur, I think I have pushed the PTT button once in ten years! I like listening to whats going on, never had anything to say, more of a glad I have it just in case kinda thing. A bunch of guys as work use them, one of them runs a repeater.

Thanks for the reminder I am pretty sure I have to renew mine this November.
