your making it hard to decide whether I should go steel or aluminum... I hardly like to take my rig over big rocks. So steel would be good in these instances but the weight savings and the rarity of me going over rocks is making me think aluminum...

A 285 on a stock wheel or aftermarket will fit just fine under there. No problems with fitment or weight. Mine's been under there for months. There's others on here who run theirs underneath as well.

I was peeved that two parking lots to adjacent stores didn't connect without going back out to the very busy main road. So I drove over the curb and down the gravel walking path for the massive 10ft of asphalt they couldn't be bothered to pave. I hate Christmas shopping!

That's very cool. I want to do this too. How do you plan to eliminate the 2nd catalytic converters and then pass a smog test later? Here in So Cal we have to get inspected every two years and it has to pass. TIA

Prepping for our move from DC to Portland with stops in Detroit and Yellowstone (two of our nation's finest destinations). The Thule Atlantis I ordered arrived today and of course the Gobi bars are too far apart to fit it. I had seen pictures of it mounted on a Gobi so I just ordered one... Oops.
Too late to return it and we need it for our trip, so I secured the front using the Thule mounts and the rear using some some 550 cord. It looked so pretty after my first attempt but wasn't tight enough for my liking, so I put a carabiner in and twisted it up and secured it with some bowlines to the rack. It looks like a hot mess now, but it's so tight I've convinced myself that it's tighter than the Thule mounts would be. Leaving in a couple of days, can't wait!

Just kidding my friend. The photo is taken in front of the Christmas tree lot here in Pasadena. It made for a good story and relates to the thread about "how much T4R capability does he really need", ie, locking diff and Atrac on the Trail Edition vs an SR5.
San Bernardino is not very far from here, less than an hour away. The mountains are a 2 hour drive away. Lots of good 4x4 trails there too. The recent tragedy there hit very close to home for us. :Cry:

Here's my latest mod on the 4Runner. A big purchase from Amazon. I call this the poor man's version of side view radar and collision avoidance system. ... mirror are, they appear, objects in the, larger than ... Just some fun with the camera of my essential 3" convex mirrors. Enjoy.
