What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Went to the local mountains for a last chance to drive some snowy roads, this changed my mind, flew my son's R/C heli instead.

Completed a front-end Limited to SR5 swap with BeyondAddiction. We were able to meet up with TOY2G at his shop here in Columbus which had numerous benefits, including saving us a few hours and getting to chat with an awesome dude who knows a ton about our community. Thanks again for the hospitality brother

Here's the down-low on the front-end swap that I haven't heard folks mention yet:

1) It takes 4-5 hours.

2) In addition to swapping the bumper and grill, you must also swap: the bumper reinforcement (part 24), the side retaining brackets (part 18), the airdam (can't miss it), and the fender liners (the things you melted to fit 32.5"s).

3a) The most painful part as it relates to time is removing all of the finder lining clips on both vehicles since the liners need to be swapped as well. (You could avoid this by gripping and ripping the clips but then you would be cruising without fenders until you procured some clips again...)
3b) You're going to lose about half of your clips to cutting anyways...
3c) So, order some here

4) There are a lot (~10) more screws for the LE assembly so make sure you move your hardware to the SR5/Trail all at the same time so they have all of the hardware needed to reassemble (excess mainly used for the valance).

5) You will greatly benefit from having BeyondAddiction 's awesome screw driver which is a 90 degree head screw driver allowing you to screw from behind (insert crude joke) when you don't have much of a gap behind where you need to screw -- e.g. the side retainer brackets.

Below are some photos of TOY2G and BeyondAddiction working on the vehicles.

I threw in a couple shots of some of TOY2G 's rigs down at the bottom - awesome builds.

My previous post wasn't what I did today... that was last Sunday.

What I did today was look up installation instructions for the SouthernSS slimline hybrid bumper I ordered :dancin:

I'm a noobie, researching and planning to buy my first 4runner [heck, Toyota for that matter] so learning....

Am I understanding that you each swapped your front end for the other guy's front end?

I guess just for ascetics?

Is there a functional reason?

Not flaming, just trying to learn if some front ends are more functional than others.

Thanks

Welcome to the 4R. I swapped for three purposes - you hit on 2. 1) I like the look. 2) Most importantly it provides me with a lot of extra clearance for off-road. 3) I can add this

Clarification: The new SR5s have better clearance than Limiteds. Old SR5's and all Limiteds have trim panels that hang much farther down than the Trails, TRDP's, and newer SR5's.

And it looks like the other guy wanted the older style bumper to chop it up and install an extreme clearance steel bumper designed for the earlier models.

But most importantly, where did those snorkels come from?

Second mod this week, just got a matte grey vinyl wrap on the hood scoop to help with the glare. Really like how it turned out!

Do you know what tube bumper that is on the last pic?

Just did a little detective work and both the tube bumper and snorkel are available from Pathfinder Outdoors, which I believe is TOY2G's shop.
