What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Wow that is Awesome, what camera did you use for this and how did you set this up, what settings etc. Headed out to Utah area this summer and would love to get some photos like that.

Nothing too crazy went out to the Red Rock Canyon State Park. Hit up some of the trails there and then photographed the night sky. The wind was crazy and brought in some thick clouds so I wasn't able to do the Milky Way this time. Hopefully next times! More photos here.

Installed a BlackSys 2 channel CH-100b HD dash cam front/rear. Supper easy hardwired install and quality HD vide0 with parking motion detection and voltage regulator. $329 to the door which included the hardwire kit and a 128gb micro SD.

Front mounts out of sight behind the mirror, gonna look the wires later today.

Rear held up with industrial velcro

I use a Nikon D810 and a Rokinon 24mm for my night photos. For the image I posted here in the forum I did two photos and combined them. Or you can take one photo and they generally turn out pretty good. I just didn't want a lot of noise in the foreground.

For the longer exposures you need an intervalometer there are many to choose from. I use one called Pluto trigger.

Settings for the sky:
ISO 3200, 1.8 aperture, 20 sec exposure

For the foreground:
ISO: 400 5.6 aperture, 8.5 min exposure

Hope the NTGs treat you well! There's been about 3' of snow in Tahoe in the last 18 hours--I think I'd be in a ditch somewhere if I didn't have A/T tires.

Installed a set of Xenon Depot Xtreme HIDs with 4300k Phillips bulbs. Without question, this is the way the truck should've come from the factory. The high beams now are only really seen well down the road. Thinking about putting the factory fogs back in with LEDs and saving my Baja Designs lights for when I get a bumper. Also installed some Hella Sharptone horns...also what should've come from the factory instead of the wimpy horns it came with.

I have the same dashcam! For the rear I cut a piece of aluminum and screwed it into the center hole towards the rear. It's gotten sort of messed up since. Is that velcro pretty strong? Did you just stick it on there?

I've done shots like this before (10+ years shooting professionally). Have you ever tried using high powered spot lights to paint in the foreground for better exposure? It helps even things out with the sky and adds endless artistic creativity, all the while allowing you to ditch that 8.5 min exposure.

It is very strong. I popped a couple holes in the headliner and ziptied the piece on the headliner.... very sturdy

Thanks! Yah I paint with some high powered LED flashlights I own. But I still do a longer exposure at a lower ISO just to get rid of the noise on the foreground for a sharper image. I've never really shot for any paid gigs I just do it has a hobby. I needed a creative outlet that wasn't work related. I do graphic design for a living. Since I already know how to use all of the tools photography was a nice fit.

On Sunday, explored the Superstition Wilderness on the Montana Mountain Loop and also hiked Rogers Canyon to some 600 year old Salado Indian ruins. Pretty spectacular day! The desert is super green right now and there is a bunch of flowing water. Wildflowers should be out soon!

Not in my 5th gen but FOR my 5th gen! Being a fireman and emt for over 15 years I decided I needed a first aid kit for my truck. I took a pelican 1300 case and stocked it up with the essentials. Gauze, burn care, sting care, bandages, hot & cold packs, and splinting supplies. Still need to grab a few more things for it but it'll have a nice home in the trunk everyday, and for upcoming camping and fishing trips.
