What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Why would it cause weak spots?? Or Rusting? Copper oxidizes, never heard of it rusting??

Week spot is where the hard solder ends and soft wire starts. Even at small vibration the "wave" in soft wire "bounces" of the hard spot, and for me it is "week spot" with a possibility of fracture.

"Rusting" (or as you properly corrected "Oxidation") can be caused by flux leftovers in the soldered spot. It is easy for the flux to travel along the wire and under the insulation where it can't be cleaned up. I've seen "rusted" copper under the insulation not far away from soldered spot.

I'm probably OCD but I like to look all my mods like came from production line :der:. I don't do soldering (except circuit boards), and I don't use "splicers".

I did electrical work on my 1 year old Nissan lately (connecting corner markers with blinkers) and by my book the correct way was twisting both wires together and then crimp inside the metal tube (long enough to grab all wires by insulation). The key is to use proper crimping tool, not pliers. Of course a heat shrink (glue type) from the outside and then few wraps of electrical tape. Such connection will last longer than the engine in that Nissan.

But like I wrote, I am probably OCD and I spend 10 times more time on that wire job than any electrical shop would do. :loco:

I second the notion for proper crimpers.. really makes a big difference once you start doing enough of this. I use a TRIcrimp from powerwerx and a hydraulic crimper for the bigger stuff.

Got that covered.

I can't recommend strongly enough, that anyone who goes off road needs to take a course like this. A basic first aid, or a more advanced one.

Also, most off the shelf first aid kits are useless for anything above a splinter or a bug bite. The wilderness kits, and the adventure kits are pretty good though.

I still end up adding things like 4x4 gauze pads (the work horse of any kit), Betadine wipes, CPR mask, Chest seals (I'm a hunter), burn gels, SAM splint, tourniquets, ace bandages, and other items. I don't carry airways because I'm not trained to use them. Everything else I know how to use.

I've thought about adding an AED to my kit, but haven't gotten serious about it yet...

Anyway, if something bad happens when you're off road, anything you can do to extend the golden hour is critical.

Agreed. Even basic first aid training makes a world of difference and those store bought kits are pretty much only useful for cuts and scrapes at home. I always upgrade my kits and take out all the useless "supplies" to save weight/space.

-AED is a serious addition. That reminds me, I need to have a refresher course and recert for CPR.

Wonder if there is a good refresher course that isn't $$$. Maybe this could be a good thing to do on a 4x4 outing over a long weekend?

Built a high clearance tip for my Gibson exhaust it sticks out a little but definitely better than my previous set up as far as clearance goes....
Still need to remove the factory spare tire carrier and move my other rotpax holder over to keep it away from the exhaust. Other than this I am really happy how much more clearance the gibson exhaust has added.

Finally got rid of the 20" Wheels and put proper tires on it. BFG KO2 275/70/17 tires on Stealth Custom Series (SCS) Stealth 6 wheels. Had to move the liner and do a bit of heat gun work to get rid of any rubbing but it's smooth now.

REALLY need to get around to that lift now though.

Got my Countersteer X mounted with 275/70/17 BFG KO2s this morning on my new 5th gen by my long time buddy James at America's Tire in Orange.

Dustin at FN Wheels was awesome when I was picking them up. His reputation is well deserved.

Got a little rub on the back liner on the front, so I'll be tackling that shortly.

Jelly! I'm up in the Seattle area and this rain is out of control! I literally have not seen a full blue sky in months! Thanks for sharing the blue sky, albeit through pics!

Dang it Antman, I love it!!!

Today I replaced my duallys in the rear bumper with diffused lense, should be a bit better for camping and wider light spread. A few days ago I pulled my amber D2's and replaced with rigid SAE fogs in lower front grill, more useable versus the amber D2's which I used a couple times a year at most.

My lightbar has slowly been blowing bulbs over the past year and a half so I finally took it off. It's a Luminix by Putco, has good reviews and is middle of the road price range, I got it for free so I figured I'd try it out. Seemed like great quality and I was pretty excited about it, but obviously it hasn't been great. I ordered some Baja Designs Squadron Pro ditch lights from TotalAutomotiveLV that should be on the way. Now my lightbar is a redneck light fixture over my work bench
