Quick weekend trip to Anza Borrego, Salton Sea, Mud Pots, Salvation Mtn, & Slab City

My son and I took a quick trip last weekend to Anza Borrego to see the Super Bloom as noted in the NY Times. I haven't seen this many flowers since 2005. It was spectacular! We actually left the OEM tires/wheels on for this trip as we didn't drive anything rough. We witnessed two stuck motorists in the sand and were able to pull them out with our strap. One was on Old Henderson Canyon Road and the other on Font's Wash. Old Henderson Canyon Road was the road to take (if you had 4WD) as there were only two other vehicles, us and the guy that got stuck. This made for excellent photos as no one was around. Everyone else was on the newer Henderson Canyon Rd and it looked like a freight train due to the amount of cars.

We also drove to Vista del Malpais instead of the more popular Font's Point and it paid off. The view is the same but there are far less people.

Picked up my Drabbits Roof Rack and started to prep the roof by doing a full clay bar and heavy wax. Brackets are on just need a second pair of hands to help carry the rack

Road trip audible

Had a last minute change of plans. Instead of heading into the desert, looks like I'm heading to Oregon to pick up an RTT. Good beer and mountain biking are going to meet us there.

So, since my roof rack isn't finished, I thought I'd grab a used set of cross bar set off of gregslist. No joy on that, so I made do with what I had on hand. this isn't a permanent set-up, so... It's just got to get me through the weekend and it's a hell of a lot more solid than the toyota cross bars and on a side note; there are some real whack-a-do's on gregslist.

I was also able to get my backup camera and license plate light moved to my swing-out rack. I'll post more on that in my build thread.

Still need to fab a legit bracket.

Tested out the new KO2's and Window Tinting

I finally got a chance to take out my new wheels and tires (KO2 275/70/17), after an ordeal with the shop. I also got the front windows tinted 5 days ago, so have been avoiding dust.

Tires did great until I stopped to play in the snow 1/2 hour from home, at which point the front fender liner came down and started rubbing. Fricken shop. See other thread ( http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/234425-bad-tire-wheel-install-post2631824.html#poststop ) for that story....

The road are messed up after the storms, so I ended up taking some interesting detours.

Are you sure those studs sticking up that high won't interfere with the tent? You might want to cut them flush with the locknuts and/or put some rubber tips on them.

I was hoping someone would chime in on the bolt thred length, because I was wondering the same thing. I packed a saw just in case, but I think I'll just shorten them tonight. Thanks for the heads up!

been emailing Chris about when this option would be available for the aluminum bumpers, looks like you did not cut the frame behind the hitch? does the high clearance hitch protrude out further to make enough depth without cutting to make it functional?

I noticed these "scratches" on my driver side tail light yesterday. They definitely weren't there the day before as I had washed the truck. I can't tell if they're scratches, cracks, etc. At first I thought maybe I got sand blasted by something but there's no damage anywhere else just the tail light housing. It also doesn't seem like it was an impact since there's no scuffs or dents and it all seems to be going the same direction.

Will I probably have condensation issues in the future? Any ideas what the cause was?

(On a side note, I just learned it's really hard taking a picture of a reflective surface lol)

those are takata air bag scratches.... you are ok just dont use the passenger side tailight
