What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

I used painters tape to make the outline. Once it dried, I used a Xacto knife to cut right along the edge of the tape. It doesn't take a lot of pressure so you don't scratch the plastic either. The tape just peels right up after that. Probably didn't have to use the knife all the way around but it looked much cleaner. Good luck!

More or less what I did was the same with the tape, but i had to apply the dip quickly, with 2-3 consecutive "coats", more like passes, and then peal the tape while it was still wet to hopefully get a clean line but it didn't work too well. I also struggled around where the Toyota emblem is because its quite tight in there.

Think I might give this another shot sometime soon, especially as the weather is getting better.

Bought a Thule Sonic XL for my factory crosssbars and used it on a camping trip this weekend.

The Thule Sonic XL is now discontinued. If you want one, gotta find it in stock somewhere (I went to Rack Attack). This is too bad since the Sonic XL is one of only 2 roof boxes I've found 15 cu. ft. or larger, fits my 185 cm skis, and fits onto factory crossbars. The other is the Thule Hyper XL which is the same box, but with LED lights inside and a more rigid floor and lid--for $350 more.

The Sonic XL does not contact the lift gate when open, and does not interfere with the shark fin. XM Radio and NavTraffic worked just fine.

Forgot to mention.. did you leave the cross bars the way they were setup? or you had to adjust it?

I was a little hesitant about the knife too but I did it just light enough to cut the Dip but it isn't noticeable on the plastic piece. I did 5 coats with about 30 min between them. After the last I let it sit for an hour or so. For the area around the Toyota logo I removed the upper grill piece completely. It is like 6 push rivets and it pops out so I figured that would be cleaner. That's how I would recommend doing it when you re try.

Friday night- loaded my welder, welding cart, my 250cf gas cylinder, 2 sheets of 16 gauge sheet metal. Rolled down to Mojave to help my buddy replace the rusted floor pans in his heep xj and teach him how to make patch panels and weld sheet metal. Made it home around 2 am

Saturday- 7am drove 200 miles to Tulare picked up our new adventure buddy a 10 week old german shorthaired pointer named Benelli. Wanted to check out the Tehachapi Loop on the way back. Hit deadstop traffic on the 58 almost got rear ended twice, semi trucks sitting idle on the shoulder and the slow lane took us over a hour to move less then a quarter mile to the 223 exit into fort tejon. Drive home took us close to 4 hours.

Rotors & Pads

Not today, but over the weekend. Replaced all 4 rotors, and all new pads. Giving the Wagner OEX pads a shot. Odometer was right at 93,600

Hope I'm not stepping on any toes, but I would get a couple more jacks for the rear axle once it's up. Letting it sit on the floor jack is hard on the jack and it could fail... Peace.

To each his own, with a 3.5 ton jack I wasn't worried about the jack being over worked.

Can't believe how many 4Runners are in Colorado! I'm guessing I saw 100+ today alone.. Once, there were 3 in a row on the highway.

Outside of Boulder County, where Subaru is the law, you are in 4Runner paradise! You think 3 in a row on the highway is impressive, it won't be long until you are surrounded by 3 of them waiting at a stoplight.

I say the standard waving etiquette in CO is to wave at all 4R drivers on a trail or dirt mountain road. Some people wave at all modded 4R anywhere in Colorado, but this soon gets fatiguing. The standard "wave" here is a peace sign while your hand stays on the wheel.

Both cross bars are at the factory-default position marked on the rails as best to reduce wind noise. This worked just fine. I never heard any rattling, and the box did not bounce. Only a slight amount of wind noise at highway speeds. I do not have a sunroof, so that probably helped with noise reduction.

I paid 593.96 for mine. This is because it was the last all-black version RackAttack in Denver had in stock. It was their showroom demo model, so the manager knocked 10% off. They still had about 3 or 4 in the sliver color.

Rigid Ignite lighitng

Installed a couple Rigid Industries Ignite LEDs for additional camp & cargo lighting. Super impressed with the output for such a small light! The cargo area is WAY brighter now and I can also rotate the light 360-degrees when the hatch is open. Also mounted one under my ARB awning for some camp lighting. I may add a few more of these eventually if I need more lighting.

Word. I learned from this forum that the Sonic XL works on the factory crossbars and then I tried it in the real world. But if you run through the official Thule configurator, it will recommend the Motion XT because the Sonic XL is discontinued. However, because the back end of the Motion XT drops down a few inches, it makes physical contact with the shark fin--not good.

Went to northern AZ to visit Grand Falls while it is still flowing. Got some dirt time with the 4R and as always it did not disappoint!

Suspension is not going to settle 3" on one side and nothing on the other side. Not to mention there's no good that can come of driving the truck lifted 5.75", CV shafts wouldn't last a mile.

After noticing that my driver's side lean increased to 1" front and rear after having my 5100's installed, and never settled down, I did a little research here, and confirmed that my left and right front coils were re-installed on the wrong sides. Got it fixed today; the shop was very gracious and apologetic. I'm confirming that the front springs are indeed side specific, and at least for a 2016 4WD, the driver's front spring is color coded with white and green paint dots; passenger has white and orange. Rears are not side specific. Thank you to this forum and to the wonders of google search!
