Hi everyone,

I haven't met the requirements to start a new thread, so I figured this was the most appropriate place to ask my questions. I've searched for info on roof racks, but haven't found the answers in looking for.

Has anyone recently gone through the same decision? What did you end up going with and why?

I chose the Gobi Stealth "no-rise" for these reasons:

1. I wanted a rack that was level from front to back, which is the "no-rise" option.

2. I don't live near a manufacturer so I'd have to put it on myself, in which case I definitely did not want to do any drilling.

3. I love the way it looks.

4. I was able to get the ladder and shipping free, which made the price a little easier to swallow.

I researched the Prinsu, I believe the full rack also requires drilling. I do like the looks of it though and the new flat accessory panel they are introducing. I believe Rhino Rack is also introducing a 5th gen specific solution, but it's very similar to the FrontRunner IMO and I'd just go with FRO in that case due to accessory availability.

Are you going to use a RTT? Do you need a full length rack? For the most part you only need a full length if you're going to use an RTT along with other accessories on the rack. If not then there are plenty of no-drill options. Ezi-Awn, Rhino, Prinsu has a 3/4 and now a 7/8 size rack, Front Runner 3/4 Slimline II with the 8" extender, Gobi, Baja. I'm a big fan of the aluminum racks because of the t-slot and channel designs. You could use most accessories interchangably. That and they're lightweight, don't rust, and just look better than the cage style Gobi or Baja racks.

I took Megaweapon out for some serious off-roading....

I got tired of exploring and off-roading in all the usual places, so I decided to go somewhere really remote.
It took some doing, but I finally found a spot that was WAY off the beaten path. Only three or four other
vehicles have ever even been there, and most of the place was completely unspoiled.

It's pretty desolate, though. Makes Death Valley look like Yosemite. Not a plant in sight, much less any
wildlife. But I had the whole place to myself and could go anywhere I wanted. Here's a pic...

On the downside, it was a lot colder than it looked, and the atmosphere left something to be desired.

Never fun trip to the Emergency Room

Sitting at a local playground watching my twin six-year old boys playing when I heard a piercing scream and here comes one of my kids running up to me with a broken arm. He fell off some monkey bars. His arm had a concave depression in his left forearm. Picked him up and ran to the 4Runner and cautiously ran three red lights getting him to the ER. He had two fractures in the arm and we're waiting to have it set, or reduced as the ER doc described it, sometime this morning. He's doing okay but he's mad because his soccer season is over.

Found these brown versions at Lowes...$1.97ea. A little trimming over 20min or so and it was all done.

This is just brilliant! Now just need to figure out how to do a "rain hood" version.

It's actually ideal for a RTT. You don't have to worry about the sides of the basket racks.
