Had Stock Head Unit Replaced
So recently my I've been having issues with the radio again. This time if I was listening to my apple music streaming across bluetooth and a call came in the unit would reboot. The kicker this time is that the dealer said to perform the update would cost $89... So after a bunch of research and weighing pros and cons I had switched over to the Pioneer 8200NEX. Currently on sale at amazon for $699. Main reasons were;
Ability to use maestro/datalink extra add on to keep steering wheel controls
Apple Carplay ready (also has google auto)
Carplay & Google can connect through the factory usb with an adapter. (this part was included in the crutchfield order.
7 in screen w/ capacitive display - translates into crisp clear screen
Nav is pretty decent (though the Pioneer App is not user friendly Im still trying to figure this one out)
Ability to keep and use rear camera
The appearance wouldn't look incredibly aftermarket
I called up crutchfield and they took my model and the head unit info and sent me out a pack of everything I would need to do the install. Total cost was about $200 but this included the front cover replacement from Scoche, which I was incredible nervous about but actually really impressed that it came out so well.
After having it about a week I love how much better it functions that Entune... Plus using "Hey Siri" is pretty awesome to send texts, check weather, etc. Way more responsive of course than the entune voice app.
The main negatives Im seeing are the Pioneer App and their maps functionality.
The Scosche dash is really close in color, and they have added a a little indent that definitely helps the way it looks. After about a week I noticed that they thing that makes it look so radically different is the two missing giant knobs (vol & tune). Once you take that into account it definitely looks much cleaner.
I also have an image with a close up of the gap between the unit and the dash. At its widest I could find a quarter fit in there, but the way it is laid out it definitely isn't a noticeable detail. At least to me.
Next up is installing an aux fuze box, sooooo wish me luck...
