I advise first fit-mounting on a flat surface to see where you are, unless you want your BOSS

Thanks! Those bump-outs are kicked up a bit for rock clearance. I cut it pretty close for rear door clearance. I’m going to go out and smack some stuff tomorrow at Hollister. I doubt they will budge, but I guess I should bring a saw, just in case!

Operator Error

I installed the RCI full skid plate package yesterday. I got to the rear RCI crossbar and was very disappointed to see it did not fit the frame with KDSS plates and brackets. ...

I installed the gas tank skid last week.

Operator error:

It was my fault the the crossbar didn't fit up or bolt in place at the KDSS lines.

I finished in poor light on Friday evening and couldn't see what was wrong. On Saturday I got down under the car with camera and flash to photograph the problem so I could show RCI how it didn't fit. Then I realized I had tried to put the cross beam in on a skew, not square with the frame. Square objects are longer on the diagonal. I had drilled a new hole where one anchor hole was, next to and below the KDSS pipe anchor bolt. It was really the KDSS bolt hole I was supposed to use.

The cross beam has a flat vertical plate at both ends that must sit flat on the frame. I guessed that I could get the crossbeam in if I pushed it up square and flat. So I raised the beam up on wood blocks, lifting the final 3 or 4 inches by 1" at a time on each end until the plate slid up into place. Then I installed the bolts finger tight.

The instructions say to lift it tight with a floor jack before tightening the bolts. I did that and cinched the bolts down tight.

The transfer case skid plate is now installed. Enjoying the added protection.

If you think the transfer case has a little skid plate, get down under your car and see what that little skid plate is bolted to. The transfer case - it does no good. if you high center your truck on that plate all the weight of the vehicle is resting on the transfer case.

Great view of the rock sliders.
Put a jack under that bump out and lift the vehicle. If it doesn't move with the static weight, it probably won't move in use out on the trail.

Suffering from a bad case of "light-envy" brought about by this board, I decided to install a Rigid light on my Gobi. Totally did not need it but I wanted to try this type of project myself. Super easy minus the rock switches as the ones I bought do not fit.

I researched everything about this install and of course that is where my headaches came from. Happy with the results though!
