Added a little altitude

Today I gave my 4Runner a little lift.

Installed Bilstein 5100's all around, set the fronts to 2.5" and installed ICON 2" springs in the rear. Taking it in for alignment in the morning and will get a couple of pictures.

Quick profile shot. Still a little bit of rake, but not as pronounced. Really makes my daughters 4th gen look small now. Holy cow does it ride nice too, much better than stock.

Finally got my DIY roof rack painted and mounted for my next trip. Borrowed a fairing from a buddy to test fit while I make my own.

My gears and lockers showed up today as well, which really freakin made my day. Should have them in tomorrow. Can’t think of a better reason to take a day off! Solenoids are prepped and ready to go!

I picked up a Yakima Skybox 21 a few weeks ago and said good by to my 12 today. Sold it to a guy on Crags List.

Can you open your rear hatch fully without contacting the skybox 21?

As to your racks.... yes, paint them black or wrap rails and paint caps.

eta: or remove.... that actually looks pretty nice too unless you need them.

Nothing too exciting. "Installed" a Ram Mount X-Grip (Suction Cup) for my phone, and the OCD center console organizer. Like both.

Can you open your rear hatch fully without contacting the skybox 21?

No initially...

1) with the stock cross barson a 14+, you will scratch the hell out of your roof b/c the crossbars are too low and too flexible. On setup you roof will be scratched as well as contact over every bump. And even if I was dumb enough to mount it any way, the spoiler would hit the box with the lift gate open.

2) I used yakima round bars and rail grabs on stock rails. Even pushed as far forward as possible, the spoiled would still contact the skybox with the lift gate open.

3) currently I have a gobi stealth. Getting the box on is a pain in the ass b/c the movable crossbars on mine have barely enough clearance to get the skybox crab claws mounted. Should have ordered the gobi with a little extra clearance or got the ranger. That said, b/c the Gobi is a full legnth rack, I can get the box fa enoug forward so that the lift gate does not contact the box when open.

Don't paint - powder coat. It looks great, is stronger than paint, and not really more expensive (at least locally in STL). I pulled my roof rails off myself (very easy - youtube videos available), and I paid $25 to powder coat them. The primer, paint, and degreaser would have cost me more.

After a long month without my 4Runner, we finally reunite. Took this opportunity to get my collected bumpers painted and installed for the bumper conversion.

Today the owner of the truck that rear ended us made the final payment to cover the medical expense and other lost things.

Got the tires rotated and now off to a weekend away with the family. Got to finally use the cargo roof bag I purchased awhile back (http://a.co/iPsQOuF). I was surprised how much this thing was able to hold - 8 sport chairs, 2 Lightspeed sun shelter tents, 4 picnic blankets, and a foldable wagon. The dimension of this bag fits perfectly within the N-Fab roof rack.

Not exactly an enjoyable moment, but got rear-ended by a flatbed tow truck. Kid and myself are OK, but annoyed that this happened at 8,500 miles of owning this 4Runner.

Ladder is slightly bent and doesn't open correctly as the top mount digs into the roof while opening. Rear window doesn't seem to operate, unable to close window. Motor seems to be damaged. Besides the obvious pushed in section of the lower half of rear hatch, the outer lines on the top have does not run perfectly aligned with trucks body. The beaver tail hitch showed some sign of a hit. I hope the frame didn't go askew. Bumper took some of the impact and now I have an error on dash to check for faulty sonar sensor.

Interesting thought since I just worked with a powder coater to do my Rago Molle panels.... Definitely curious about this now....

How's night driving with the 70% windshield? Considering the same but concerned about driving on unlit backroads that are pitch black at night.

You shouldn’t have a problem driving at night with 70% I have 35% and an eyebrow on mine and it’s darker but I can still see
