This was probably not a good idea but I decided to drive her through a creek. I wasn't sure I was going to make it as it had just rained and fast flowing mud water made it impossible to gauge depth or analyze the bottom. The exhaust was fully submerged and water made it well past the door level. I had no idea till I saw the pics :shocked:.
Anyway she made it OK, cabin air smelled like the creek for a couple days but all was fine after. Love this truck.

It's stable enough for everyday driving as it is. Haven't gone off roading with it yet.
Yeah, it did cross my mind about projectiles, but with all the kids stuff in the 4Runner, what's one more projectile.:rofl:

I'd change my rear axle fluid if I were you. And that smell in the cabin may have gone away momentarily, but it could still be wet under your carpet. I'd hate to have mold festering under there.

No mud/water inside the cab. Everything was fine. Measured beforehand and were prepared for a quick recovery. Rear tire (295/70r17) was fully submerged, and the water was about 8" above the bottom of the door.

Dude, I would advise NOT to put a fire extinguisher up there. God forbid youre in an accident and that thing becomes a projectile towards the back of yours or your passenger's heads.

Today I crawled under my truck.
Today I crawled under my truck to try and determine what parts the thieves took. Yes, someone decided to treat my beloved 4Runner as a parts store. So far it looks like they only took the skid plate that covered the transmission and the Catalytic converter. They also took one bolt from the small plate that covers the oil drain plug. My suspicions are that they were setting the truck up to come back later and get the CAT.

Thanks for the tips. Will definitely have that breather in before the next water adventure. Got me worried about the mold part though...

It is strapped down to the netting. There is a reason why the handle of the fire extinguisher is over the edge of the netting. But yes, you are correct that it will be an issue if put up there loosely.
