Driving her through the
creek may not have been a good idea, but this here, this was a
bad idea.
Emboldened by the ease with which the truck had conquered several obstacles over the past few weeks, I decided to push her to her offroading limits. Miles from civilization, I found an obstacle which combined steepness, a large barrier and slippery terrain. I knew it was difficult when I saw no tire tracks in the area meaning not even the Jeep guys bothered to try it but I just couldn't resist. I quickly surveyed the site and figured the way down over the wooden platform would not be too difficult with the help of gravity but the way back would certainly be a challenge as I would have to get over that large wooden platform, uphill, and with barely any traction due to fresh mud. The narrowness of the path and the swap beside it made it even more difficult.
I entered the ditch and with some difficulty but was able to climb over the barrier. The pictures do not do it justice as the climb is steeper and the barrier is higher than it appears. After getting past the ditch, I drove around with the hope of finding an alternate exit so I wouldn't have to drive back through the ditch but it was a dead end. The first challenge was getting the front tires over the platform. Since the platform was at an angle to the car, the front tires just kept sliding up against it and would not climb. I
could have positioned the car so that both front tires would have been flat against it but that angle would put my rear tires in the swamp. The solution was to crate a ramp using stones and sticks to assist the front tires' climb.
After a good struggle, I got both front tires over the platform but the platform was so high that the car was now suspended by the chassis and three of the tires had no traction. It took more stone and wood piles and lots of rocking motion to get enough tire on the ground and regain traction. It was getting dark and the last attempt absolutely had to succeed. With a good amount of debris packed under the tires, I gave it one last push and miraculously made it over. I certainly will
not be trying this again. Anyway, I took a few pictures for you guys. Enjoy.
