Ah, I figured the "chrome" was actually an internal reflector on the outer-most part of the light so the turn signal would show towards the outside of the car. Interesting.

Starting the dechroming

New to forum, new to the 4runner fam, completely in love with my truck though.

2012 sr5 (2wd) finished the Satoshi Grill, and wrapped, dipped the fog bezels, and rear garnish.

Love seeing all the mods. Plans are to delete the roof rack, step rails, and continue blacking/debadging the chrome!

Nope, it just replaces the useless chrome, I can still see my amber turn signals in the rear from my side mirrors

Not trying to put their stuff or you down but that's crazy. My Morimoto LEDs all fit behind my duct cap. One reason I opted not to go HIDs was the drilling of the cap. Obviously really doesn't matter if you don't mind drilling them and they seal up well.

That was my concern too, but I also wanted better output. I ended up getting IS 250 projectors and clear lenses, no drilling/external modification required. The IS projectors have the same goofy side light setup as the T4R. The retrofit wasn’t horribly expensive, $850 if I remember correctly, and worth every penny.

TRD PRO Fox suspension

Anybody tried the new Fox suspension? I installed a set on my 17 TRDOR and really feel the difference. Don't know if it is normal to feel it less comfortable ON ROAD, but I started missing my old stock suspension. Maybe bad install?

What i like most is it's very light weight, aesthetically clean/simple, and the high clearance frame bolted hitch option (which has towed a 3k lb trailer without issue)
what i don't like is the swing arm pin being directly under the tire, makes it just slightly harder to reach and also doesn't stay as stable as other clamp options. i believe any HF bumpers ordered now will have the new swing arm latch design, which you can see on Chris's IG build. I'd like to retro fit the new swing arm if/when i decide to put it back on. i only ordered the single arm for the tire, otherwise i don't use the bumper for a lot of accessories

The tire carrier itself is vertically adjustable for either better departure clearance or better rear visibility

edit: it looks like there is a locking pin on the spindle to hold the new swing arm in the open position as well

Thank you, doesn’t seem to be a lot of people running the Hefty Fab rear bumper on the forum. I asked them about the latching system on Project Mallrunner and they confirmed all new bumpers will have that latching system.

I wouldn’t trust all that weight to a 5 dollar cotter pin, that’s too risky for me. IMHO, I think that’s why most people pass on that rear bumper.

It's an off road suspension, it's going to be firmer. It you like the old cruise ship floating feel, stick with the OEM suspension you had before. The fox suspension is however a huge upgrade IMO

Installed an ICON stage 2 system and couldn't agree more. If you like a real cushy ride, stock OEM is actually quite magnificent (and it's free with valid purchase of vehicle).

If you want to sit higher, jump further & go farther...you didn't make a bad choice.

For $100 bux I cannot complain. Buttons are mechanical in nature so activation has a nice solid "Click" to it. Installation was straight forward.

-I didnt catch that is had green back lighting when purchasing, but I am dealing with it.

-Labels/Stickers werent extremely easy to line up. There were quite a few choices for the labels to use, so it worked out.

-I think the only real Con is that there is no 8 button version to be found. The 6 Button unit is a great size and doesnt take up too much space, but over time I am sure I will want more slots, and that will make me invest in one of the higher priced options on the market.

I bought TRD Pro reps and want to swap them in to replace my oem sr5 rims but I'm curious if the valve stems + tpms can be swapped over to the new unit.

If so, my contention then is that the valve stems are metal so they'll just look odd with black rims. Should I just mask stuff off and shoot the stems with a bit of plastidip or spray paint after they're transferred over?

If I go with new rubber valve stems, I'll most likely need new tpms units. So, the switch-over job will jump from $46 to $362. Not sure if that's really good ROI on an additional $320 given that I can spray the valve stems with black stuff from a can every so often. When the valve stems fail (rubber seals start cracking, bent stems, etc.), I can get rubber ones then.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Advice?

Thanks, yeah, I used a razor blade and tape. The 4Runner taillights were easy to tape up and spray the outside. I didn’t bother to try n open them up although that was my plan initially.
