What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Icon Suspension & FJ Shifter

Now that I FINALLY have the truck:

1. In the spirit of "buy once cry once" I ordered an ICON Stage 7 suspension kit with the Overland springs upgrade from the guys at TotalAutomotiveLV https://totalautomotiveperformance.com Richard & Jason were great at helping me get the order all dialed and answered all my questions. Thanks guys!

2. Ordered an OEM FJ shifter (the stock one on the ORP is a little too flashy for my taste)

And now the waiting... In the meantime I'm looking forward to the first of many camping trips this Memorial weekend. Still trying to figure out where to go, everything is booked up!

I also plan to do some baseline measurements of vehicle (wheel well, front and rear bumper, differential and suspension heights) before the install. Will probably be the opening post for my build thread... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Cleaned CAI air filter, cleaned MAF sensor and Throttle body and new wipers.

Trying to do my own oil change I found one stuck bolt and I broke the other front bolt trying to remove the skid plate. Been awhile since I broke a bolt, tomo I'll work on fixing them. I have a feeling it wasn't me since the plastic cover was missing all 3 clips to begin with.... smfh

Moving forward either I do the oil change or the delaership only. I know it's no guarantee but a bit more confident that a dealer will do it right vs a regular shop since the oil change is so stupidly complicated on 2016 4R vs older models.

This past week's work

Finally finished painting and installing my Shrockworks dual battery kit.

Pulled off the running boards and took a killer evening pic with the wife's Taco.

Are you planning on adding a rear bumper, drawer system, and a roof top tent? If not the Icon Overland springs will be way too stiff. People who have full rear bumpers with swing outs have said they're even too much. I wouldn't get those springs unless you're adding an additional 600 lbs to the rear.

Installed White Knuckle Off Road rock sliders and sticker.
Yes, I have driveway parking lines.

I’m CDO like that (OCD alphabetically)...

Thanks for calling that out!

I plan on adding a rear dual swing out bumper with oversized spare (CBI) and a drawer system, then there’s the sliders and skids and a rack and large Yakima pod (only while car camping with the fam) but probably not a rooftop tent. I also plan on towing a 3500lb. trailer on occasion. I hope I’m planning this right, do you think that’ll still be too stiff? I’m used to, and prefer trucks that ride like a 3/4 ton. That said, I’ll admit I’m new to the high-end off-road suspensions and am just making a best (uneducated) guess. My goal is to plan ahead and spend the money once.

I'm no expert on the topic by any means either but I haven't heard a lot of great reviews on the Icon Overland springs. Again, probably mismatched to what they were running but they also ran heavy in the rear and found it way too stiff. I would contact Icon directly and ask them what the best use scenario is for those springs. I would then turn around and talk to Dobinsons. I've heard of more people switching from Icon springs to Dobinsons springs than the other way around. Dobinsons has a lot more rear coil options to appropriately match it to your vehicle load. I would start with that and ignore what the TAP guys want to sell you.

Thanks for the advice SN, I’ll look into it and post what I find out.

Slapped on Coastal Offroad's brand spankin new front steel bumper (comes in single or triple hoops). Switched up the lighting hardware a little - LP9 Pros, Squadron Sports in WC and DC. Swapped out the front spring and rear springs to accomodate for the heavier loads front and back. Also decided to clean up the wiring in the engine bay to satisfy my OCD.

I am also interested in a rear recovery point, since my factory hook its rusting out, do i contact the person you tagged to get one made?

So I reached out to the ICON guys and they recommend swapping in the overland spring if you're adding anymore than 250lbs. to the rear of the vehicle which I will easily reach. As a dual rate spring I'm hoping/expecting it will have somewhat decent road manners. I guess we'll see. I'll be sure and post a review after the install and some time on and off road.

Also, I wanted to apologize if I gave the impression that the TAP guys were trying to up-sell or anything like that. My praise for them was related to their willingness to answer all my questions via both chat and phone, and their willingness to accommodate a super specific shipping window.

Thanks again for encouraging me to dig a little deeper on this, now I'm even more confident than before that this is a solid choice.

Changed out my original brake pads just now. They had about a third of life left, but I had a bit of time so I went ahead and did them after doing a quick tire rotation. Switched to Akebonos and bled the fluid. Night and day difference in bite.

Not today but couple weeks ago trips to Moab. Love that place!

left it at the dealer. Guessing abs sensor/wire issue since it has the 3 lights on, plus needs a windshield, and while it's there might as well do an oil change. I hate the dealership.

I didn't really wanna play "guess what wire/sensor is bad" and he said it's still under warranty anyways.
