Had to take the roof rack off for some maintenance. I’m digging the smooth roof look. Ordered the roof rack delete parts and will run without the rack when I don’t need it.

Did a thorough wash, claybar and wax. Sunday afternoon.

Then got it dirty today with the family out on a Memorial Day hike.
It never stays clean for very long...

We packed up and found a nice camping spot off of a forest service road in Itasca County, Minnesota over the weekend. We scouted out a couple more spots in the area and will be coming back to camp in this area again soon (with more bug spray in hand).

I wouldn’t recommend the road from Big Pine unless you are with an experienced group and your 4Runner hyper-modified. Even then, my opinion is that the 4Runner too wide to fit.

I haven’t been up that way since I moved from Big Pine in 2008, but used to drive up as far as I could and hiked up into the meadows at Onion Creek.

Back then, anything larger than a 1984-2002 Cherokee was pushing the limit on the narrow shelf road trail for a short distance past Glacier View, though fine for bikes and quads. One mistake and one was in for hours of triangulated winching. That, and one is forced to drive up and over large boulders.

I tried going down and then decided to play it smart and turn around before it was too late lol. Maybe ill come back with a UTV.

Both trails leading into Funnel was enough fun for me (pretty wet/muddy and rocky but would prefer more crawling).

Recognized the region. Lived in June Lake and Big Pine since the 1970s until 2008 when I moved to north-central Nevada.

Cargo/sleep platform is pretty much done. Into it for less then $300 bucks with some nice carpentry tools added to the collection. I would be interested in seeing what the extra $1000 gets you with goose gear setup...siiike!

Letting the bedliner cure up. The striping should go away.

Used the same spray on I used on the outside of my truck. Duplicolor bed armor aerosol in the 16oz cans. With some care using a light scrub with citrus degreaser and a wipe of 303 Vinyl protectant I’ve found it to be extremely durable and long lasting. Hood has been sprayed since the the summer of 18’ with no fading or chipping (prepped like any proper paint job). Front/rear bumpers and well as the spoiler have got the same treatment since.

Will see how it lasts on such a high contact surface. Might want something a little less porous down the road. Maybe something that dries a bit harder. Haven’t tried raptor. Might be a good excuse to get an air compressor.

No two of those 16oz cans which are almost $20 a piece just barely did the tops. I just used rusto flat black for the bottoms. Figured it would be better then nothing seal up the wood, help any water incursion from wet gear/spills, and looks.

I also did this today. One of the things that irked me about my previous vehicle that shall not be named was some of the shinier surfaces that would reflect into my eyes. I figured I'd cover up that bit in the 4Runner.

I used to have a large website on Eastern Sierra, Death Valley and Nevada 4x4 trails, but took it down a few years ago. I had a large page on that trail. When I get a chance, I’ll put a few of my favorite photos in my gallery of the trail to show the severity of the section I mentioned. There is no easy way to widen the trail in the bad section except someone with oversized huevos highly off camber on a bulldozer. And the Forest Service isn’t going to allow that.

The trail is OK up to a point called Glacier View and the views are well worth the drive alone.

EDIT: Just checked and found a couple already in my gallery from the trail, with my old Tacoma.

One steep and off camber section, but not the area where I do not recommend trying alone, unless you are on a bike or quad. And yes, the camera is level.

One of the higher viewpoints over looking both Sanger Meadow (shown) and Owens Valley (looking east).

There was some major erosion damage in the lowest part of the trail after the major fires of July 2007 as well.

Went for a scenic drive on the Alpine Loop from American Fork Canyon to Provo Canyon, then went kayaking down the river and on the reservoir. Beautiful day here in Utah!
