It was not today, but it was an adventure that lasted 8 days and 7 nights. Wife and I took our first road trip and it was her first time camping since before we met (she hates camping). My #1 goal was to make her as comfy as possible and I was told over and over again that I succeeded!
We started with a night in Vegas (hotel) and then headed to our first camp spot in Zion. Spot was awesome and right on the Virgin river. Got to hear the water all night.
After hiking the River Trail, we headed up to Bryce. Super awesome campsite but it got down to 27 degrees. The good news is the wife did so well and was in good spirits.
We hiked Bryce Hoodoo forest and then headed to Moab. The drive from Bryce to Moab was one of the most beautiful drives I have ever taken. Google took us through all these small farm towns and the scenery was breathtaking.
Spent one night camping in Moab and then I got to play for a bit on the Fins and Things trail! Wife was more than happy to get out of the truck and take videos LOL. After that, we checked into a hotel in Moab for much needed showers and some comfort.
Then we headed to the Grand Canyon and camped in the KOA in Williams, AZ. The site was okay, we had a lot of neighbors, but it was comfy and still really enjoyable. We stayed here two night before heading home.
In total, we camped 5 nights and drove just under 1800 miles in 8 days. The 4runner handled like champ. The back was set up for us to sleep in with a King Camp mattress which was too big and had to return (I knew this as the Exped was not in stock for us to purchase before).
The one thing I def need is stiffer rear springs as you can see how low I am riding. Of course, I had to get some patches at each destination and found an awesome spot in the 4runner to install!

Installed the Bilstein 6112/5160 into the ORP. Just got it back from alignment - all in the green. So glad I did it myself... took me a year to finally dive in there (literally bought the suspension September 2019). But the wait allowed me to find a method to install in a KDSS vehicle without removing any part of the sway bar, and even avoid the pry-bar!
Unfortunately, the minor rub in reverse I had with Method MR701 (0MM offset) and stock 265/70/17 AT3Ws has become a major rub in any turn in reverse... WITH a new 2.25” lift in front. Sheeesh.

Took her out to Uwharrie for some very wet and muddy fun on the trails. Maybe too much fun? Came down hard somewhere on the trails but I’m not even sure where?
Just plastic so a little heat helped me pop it out which made it look 90% better (it’s not perfect). There was also a crack in it on the corner so I put on my surgeon hat and got to work. She isn’t a show truck so, it’s good enough!

White Rim Trail destroyed my air filter so upgraded(hopefully) to the AEM washable dry filter

Simple maintenance day.
After the fire season here and since I spent time up by the fires I replaced my cabin air filter. It was much needed and glad I did.
Also put some new wipers on.
All ready for the winter season!

Changed the rear diff oil. 2.9 qts my ass. Took a lot more then that maybe that’s for a cold drain?
At 21000+ miles many of them dirt to include a few crossings I thought it was good insurance. Definitely seen worse oil tho.
Decided to enjoy the new gear oil with a night romp and some camping.

Game changer. No more pumps for me. If you tow, wheel, or live in crazy weather temp wise no reason not to use 90wt. Amsoil also has a membership thing you can save a bit on you order.

Thought I’d jump in here. I use the Amsoil in the bag. It’s great, no mess. You can angle it as needed and squeeze. No need for a pump to clean up.
BTW, the rear diff oil change is easy. Just drop the spare tire and get it out of the way.

Like the stitch work. Got a bit of that holding my front plastics on. Be sure to drill out the ends of the crack to help it from spreading.

I didn't drop my spare 33". No issues but I do have a 1" lift in the rear.

I looks like the filter did it’s job. You have the good middle eastern version with that meshy sand/grit pre-filter. How did the other side look, any dirt get by to the engine?
I used a K&N filter for a while but got tired of washing, drying, oiling. Too much of a PIA for me and I went back to the OEM filter. Plus I read a few reviews that said the paper OEM ones filter better than the high air flow after market filters.

I know it's counter-intuitive, but lifting an independent front suspension does not give you more tire clearance. The suspension still has the same travel arc. You've just moved the "resting" point down and taken away some down travel and added up travel. If your tires rubbed before lifting, they will rub after lifting, at the same point in the suspension travel. Going from a positive offset to 0 will exacerbate this.

My wife and I went on a camping/hiking trip last month and I'm just now getting around to posting about it. We had been planning a trip to Washington and Oregon but changed plans a few days before we were supposed to leave due to the wildfires. We started in North Dakota and made stops in Deadwood, Mount Rushmore, Needles Highway, Badlands NP, Wind Cave NP, Moab, Arches NP, Canyonlands NP, Capitol Reef NP, Bryce Canyon NP, Zion NP, Jackson Hole, Grand Teton NP, and Yellowstone NP. We We were on the road for 2 weeks and put 4500 miles on the 4runner. The 4runner is set up for car camping so most nights we found spots for dispersed camping. Moab was definitely the highlight of the trip for me. We spent most of our time there exploring the national parks and driving trails to find good dispersed camping spots each night. I hope to go back in the near future to do more exploring out there. The 4runner did great and it was a fun trip!

That's awesome, great photos!! Glad you still got to have an awesome trip.
How's the rooftop box working out for you? I think some essential camping gear stored up there instead of inside would be a great idea (tent, chairs, table, etc). Plus they're reasonably aerodynamic I think.

Thank you! The Yakima Skybox 16 has been working out great. We bought it this past spring and have used it quite a bit. When we go camping, we keep the coolers, food totes, and all of our clothing in the 4runner and the rest of our gear gets packed into the cargo box. It isn't too noisy and it doesn't seem to kill our gas mileage too much. I've been very happy with it so far!
