Decided to do something in the rattle that developed in my hatch. Pulled off the hatch cover and turns out, two of the nuts that hold the black tailgate garnish had fallen off. Tightened everything back up, and no more rattle.

Some turbo turdburglar decided to get into my 4Runner last night and steal what money they could find. I guess they were ticked off badly enough that I only had maybe a couple bucks worth of change in my truck that they also decided to steal my registration and insurance information. I didn't see anything else that was missing.

Check to see if your garage door opener is missing. An opener and an address off your papers can lead to a bigger theft.

That was my first thought also. Another thing is to never store "home" in your GPS Stolen vehicle with a garage door opened and a home address to make things nice and easy. They know where you are and about how long they have before you get home after the few hours you'll spend waiting for the police and filing your report. This problem was even bigger back in the day of portable GPS systems like Garman, TomTom, stuff like that. All they had to do was take the GPS and garage door open, they didn't even need the vehicle.

Time to go back to the conventional garage door padlock.

Screwed into the wood garage door frame with 3-4 screws. That takes about 5 seconds to pry off with virtually no noise at all. If you're worried about it, CCTV security and have the garage wired into the alarm system as well. Don't leave ID in the vehicle and don't leave your garage door opener behind.

I can attest to this one. Years ago I had just bought a 10 speed bike rode it around the neighborhood and the next day the padlock was ripped right off the door (I had used 3" screws on the jamb and bolts with good sized washers and nuts on the door. They got it off anyway) and the bike was gone. Called the cops and since the garage wasn't attached to the house they didn't even send anyone to look at it or make a report. Nice, right?

Buddy let me know his friend was getting rid of this because they were upgrading to a CBI bumper. I agree, definitely fortunate to be able to pick this up as they are no longer available. Love how it fits flush and no cutting was needed.

Just filled the bumper with some lumens as well!

I'm in the habit of checking to see if I locked my vehicle, but maybe I forgot to do it last night and was the victim of bad luck. Nothing was broken. I just noticed things weren't as I left them yesterday when I sat down in it this morning. It wouldn't have bothered me so much if they only stole the money. I get it. Things are hard right now. I've been up to Wall Street and gave a homeless guy on the street a few bucks. I've got a 2020 4Runner in the current day and age, and I'm not over my head financially with it. I'm okay with someone needing the change in my truck more than I need it, but they also took the registration and insurance information, and for what? Just to spite me? They didn't even bother taking anything else.

I’ve heard taking your registration (because it has your vin) and any info about you can be used to go get possible key copies [emoji1361]

Yea, I spent a month on the road (or off the road) running Moab, Colorado back country, and Idaho back country. I think the constant vibrations just backed them out.

Ill try not to beat a dead horse, but last item is to get to know your neighbors. They will be able to tell if someone is at your house that doesn’t look right. If they have your number, they can call and check in. :deadhorse:
