What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

bought a dual density gel/memory foam mattress and custom cut it to fit on the platform I built last weekend. Surprisingly comfortable for only being about 5" (supposed to be 6, but so far hasn't expanded all the way).

threw my cargo box back up top and stuffed it. I've gotten rid of a lot of my belongings the last few months. everything I own now fits in the Yakima, the empty front passenger seat, and the storage behind the front seats/under the lip of the platform. heading out tomorrow. Going to NM, CO, UT, and CA to ski, then moving to Moab for the spring/possibly long term.

gonna have to raise the rear a bit when I get to Moab. got a bit of that squat going on with the truck packed.

I did the same with a Thule box mounted to a Prinsu rack. very low and flat. Finally - clean out the cab.

I'll eventually add a real rack. the weight is a little much for the box and stock rack. I had it very overloaded this spring and did 3000 miles of backcountry overlanding/offroading in UT, AZ, and NM, and it surprisingly didn't break or bend, etc. But I still had too much stuff. the top box and the entire back (minus enough space for my 90 lb dog to lay down were full. so I'm glad I've whittled it down to just the box and front seat and storage behind the front seats.

I did a 2.5" front Daystar spacer lift and the required trimming for 275's on -38 wheels. that's it (other than a badge blackout kit and tint). Like I mentioned above, I've had the cargo box overloaded and the back completely stuffed and I haven't really noticed the weight except that I definitely hit my skid plates more offroading. I haven't driven it more than 15 or 20 miles around town since I put the lift and tires on, so I'll find out how it is on the interstate tomorrow when I drive from the east coast to Taos. I won't be doing any offroading until I get to Moab in a week or two. I'll probably go ahead and immediately put 1" spacers on the rear before I do.

I'll eventually do a 3" lift with reservoir shocks all around but it will be awhile. likewise with 33's and bumpers.

Today I just did a bunch of errands, but it was my first full day with my new '21 TRD ORP so I enjoyed every minute of driving around town. Took a few photos since it was just detailed yesterday, will eventually post!

Finished swapping out my KMC KM236 Tank 17x9 -38mm offset in Satin Black.

Took off my old FN Wheels Counteer Steer Type X and the spider Trax spacers

And then went to get her weight at the Cat Scales

Nearing the end of this Project... Just gotta wire the Diode Dynamics SSC2 rear flood lights. Get them installed because they need to open the holes on my C4 Bumper. And then get the pinch welds done and fix a few things. FINISH LINE

No pictures, but I replaced the dash speakers with the subby kickers tweeters and the front door speakers. Also replaced the fog with morimoto LED fogs. Need to replace the H11 bulbs with H9 next, H11 output is terrible. Also trying to figure out why I'm unable to turn the key/operate the driver's door lock. Do not think its an actuator issue since the door unlocks/locks with the remote and using the key in the hatch.

First sample was Amsoil but it was pretty much all highway, since I was commuting pretty from work. Second sample was Shell Rotella but did have a lot of off-roading and overloading involved. Also I now live 3 miles from work, so not sure if that effects it at all.

I know one of the reasons we're don't mind snow in California is because when we're done visiting it, we just go home and it's 70°. I can imagine living in it for 4+ months can get pretty tiresome. :bounce:

LOL well don't move to Florida because we have hurricanes, monsoon season rains, gators and lots and lots of mosquitos...high electric bills in the summer too for runnin the AC 24/7....just sayin

I'm an older guy and the cold just bothers me more than it used to. I hate snow blowing and shoveling. Yes I have a 4Runner and I know how to drive in the snow but there are so many *******s on the roads on a good day that when it snows it's like friggin' bumper cars! I'm not worried about my 4Runner or my capabilities I'm worried about some asshat killing me. Dammit I need to move to North Carolina already!

Nope, not Florida for all those reasons. My son recently moved to North Carolina and that's a good compromise. You think your summer electric bills are high? Try NY! My problem is the wife, she refuses to move. I might have to leave her here!

How old is your 4R? Do you have two keys? Do you use only one key?
On my older 4Runner I used one key exclusively and kept the other in reserve. Well, that key and the ignition must have worn in sync over the years. I rarely used a key in the door locks, and eventually the well-used key would not work in the doors. However the unused spare would, but would be kind of sticky in the ignition.

So in my 5th Gen I’ve been swapping the keys every 6 months so they wear kind of evenly.

I decided to snow blow the driveway so I moved the Forester out into the street. There was a pretty good mound of snow behind it just about to the top of the bumper but they are supposed to be pretty good in snow so I just backed her up. Hardly spun a tire. Backed right over it and into the street. Next was the Runner. Mound of snow over the rear bumper and packed around the tires. In 4H backed out like the snow wasn't there. Figured I'd take it around the neighbor hood on secondary streets that have hardly been plowed to give the 4WD system some exercise. Too easy so I purposely got into a couple of piles of snow that the plows left on the corners. Almost hood high. Right through without a whimper. Like others have said, it seems to be a snow mobile! The Falkens impressed me.
