What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

I haven't installed them yet, I am waiting on the other headlight to get delivered so I can retrofit it. I did an HID/ LED retrofit for my 5th gen. I installed NHK G5-X projectors in the factory low beam spot and then installed Morimoto Mini HB led projectors in the high beam location. I had the G5 projectors from a previous retrofit, not ideal as they are long with the bulb in place. I will make sure the headlights are sealed up properly. I also painted the high beam and low beam chrome reflector area super white to match the vehicle. I am hoping by next weekend to have them installed

My gf said the battery light was flickering so I tested it and the battery was running only 10 volts with the engine going. I tried a new battery because the old one was about the age they start giving up with the cold, and because I didn't really want to do an alternator job. Test drove around the block and the new battery was half flat afterwards so had to charge it and remove the alternator.

After rigorous analysis I was able to diagnose the problem:

Whoever put this junk one in also broke off the B terminal connector cover on the harness.

Ordered the proper 130A Denso infused with pure Japanese goodness from McGeorge... the packaging isn't exactly confidence inspiring:

I'll do the idler pulleys while I'm at it. These aren't as cheap as a hoped it was over $200 for the 3 pulleys. Only the driver side No. 2 was obviously worn so I'll keep the other as backup spares.

Swapped my DDM Tuning Switchback turn signals for some Amber Putco LEDs instead. The switchbacks are cool, but aren't bright enough given the rest of the lights on the front of the truck. Hence they were difficult to see the flashing orange that indicated a turn, and that's when I was standing in front of it. As oncoming traffic I'm sure they were less than optimal. Also swapped my side marker clearance lights over to Putcos as one of the JDM ASTAR Amazon specials was starting to strobe and fail. I've had enough of those JDM ASTAR lights failing that I now advise against them, especially for hard to reach places.

Removed my RSG sliders this morning because rust

I did my own coating with Rustoleum Primer and then Bed Liner. Multiple spots on the sliders have worn through the coating and started to rust. Maybe that's what I get for not having professional powdercoat. Ugh.

Gave mine a good wash. I gotta get a new scrubber or something because it always takes two washes because the first wash leaves dirt behind. I can’t quite understand it.

Pelican

I built a shelf for my Pelican cargo case out of extruded aluminum.

I have the quick roof mount for the case as well, but it doesn't fit in the garage with it attached so wanted an option to keep it in the cargo area. Unfortunately the case is about two inches too long to fit between the wheel wells. I ended up designing / building this simple shelf so I can:

1. Keep the case level in the cargo area
2. Store other cargo or cases beneath it
3. Still see out my back window with the rear view mirror.

My thought is that I can leave it back there most of the time and throw it up on the roof rack when I need the space in the back.

I'll post a project write up in the next few days.

I think they're actually 4Runner spares, but the size/offset/appearance is the same as the FJ wheels.

Got my 4Runner back from the shop. They installed my Dobinsons IMS system, air bags, BMC, EimKeith PCK, and FN wheels with Nitto 285/70 C load tires. The ride is so improved over stock that I couldn't believe it... even with the C rateds at 40psi (vs stock SLs at 30psi). I got a quick pic before the rain moved in, planning on getting it offroad in the next couple of days.

Installed Diode Dynamics interior LED lights (red). I'm big on keeping my night vision, comes with the job I guess. These things are great, really glad I did this.

I went to my Toyota dealer and finalized a new deal.
I’m turning my 2020 ORP into a 2021 ORP.
They had been contacting me for my trade in because they short on pre owned T4R. After actually talking to her about it I finally decided what the heck! My interest rate goes way lower, my monthly payment goes a little lower. The Super White ORP I’ll take has TRD wheels, running boards & KDSS, all those my ‘20 don’t have and I want, hope I like the KDSS. My ‘20 I had done window tint, remote start & the black badge overlays to it, I’ll want to do at least all that again for the ‘21.
Another reason is I commute 100 miles a day, the ‘20 already has 31,000 on it lol. Thought I buy back some mileage too.
And the LED headlights/taillights, another plus.

Glad to get RSG to powdercoat mine then. My previous truck had Expedition One sliders, and now have RSG sliders, am very impressed with the powdercoating. Even with all the exiting from the vehicle with my feet rubbing the sliders on exit every time there are no worn spots.
Try to find somone local who uses a good powdercoat to do them for you. Our local Trailer company "AmeraTrail" uses "Dupont" powdercoating. Am sure it makes a difference which kind of powdercoat you use. Good luck!

I did the Lazfit LEDs and they are BRIGHT! Love the blinkers now.

What did they change on the taillights? Are they full LED now?

Oh for 2021 now the front heads are no longer halogen but are LED. The tails I believe I am assuming they went to LED. The fogs I think maybe they still not LED.
