What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Assembled a set of Bilstein 6112 for the front of my 4runner. I measured and verified they are 3/4 in longer than the factory struts, if there were the same length I would have used a top spacer to effectively get more droop. I set the rings up for what the instructions show to be 2" of lift.
I had not noticed previously but I measured all four corners today to get "before" numbers, my 4runner does have the driver side lean. When I first read the Bilstein instructions regarding setting the drivers side two rings higher than the passengers side I thought that was silly, then my brother told me the factory springs are rated higher on the drivers side. Learn something every day.

i set mine equal to both sides.

enjoy, easily the BEST setup for the money.

Finally got the 285/75/R17 load range C Nitto Ridge Grappler tires installed. No rubbing. So far I like the hybrid tread on road.

You are probably not rubbing due to the narrower width and positive offset of the oem wheels. Do you think a 285/75-17 would fit in the spare tire area under the vehicle?

Yeah I think you are right about the wheels. I'm not sure if they will fit underneath. I have a 33" pizza cutter in their now and recall it just barely fitting.

The OG Trail looks great. Are you lifted at all?

I just got a 13 Trail with an OME lift and SPC UCA's already on it, and decided to go with 275's instead of 285's due to much feedback (Facebook OG 4R group) saying I would rub with 285's.

Thanks and congrats on the 13 TE! Yes, I have an Icon 3" lift with Total Chaos UCAs. The previous owner installed and did quite a bit of inner fender trimming as well. I probably should have mentioned all of that lol

Right lol. I didn't want to trim or cut so stuck with the 275 just to fill the space a bit from the stock size tires.

Your Trail wheels look good, mine are going for black powder coat this weekend. Are you using the correct center caps with the trail wheels, or something else? Those look awesome.

Lubed the spider joints and slip yokes. Because the dealer considers that a separate service that's not included in the free oil changes I got when I bought the thing.

Yeah went with a semi gloss powder coat. The center caps not TE, they are the TRD Pro center caps. I posted about it last year. Someone got the idea from the FJ forum. Basically, you have to file 2mm off of each tab the twist them in place while the wheel is off because when installing, the lug nuts go on last. Essentially the lug nuts keep them possibly twisting out. And obviously, when removing the wheels, the lug nuts must be removed first.

What did you use to assemble them? I had problems getting spring compressor hooks to fit because of the shock width.

I had trouble with my spring compressor also, once it was assembled the spring compressor could not be removed as the coils are now too close together. Bought a second spring compressor from NAPA, that one did not quite fit either however 10 minutes with a grinder and it now fits.

So $50 for a spring compressor, $75 for new KYB strut tops, I could have had Wheelers off-road assemble them for $90. If I knew that the 6112s are actually extended vs the stock struts, I would have had Wheelers assemble them. The upside is if after I install them I then want to fine tune the ride height I am ready to go.

The compressor I used successfully:

Finally after years of abuse. 162k miles of straight beatings I got some sliders. Watch I never touch um!! [emoji1787] The multiple dents in the rockers say that’s highly unlikely!!! Added some geip tape on the top too for steps. Hi Loft approved

Love that minimal look. What brand are they?

Not trying to intrude but in case he doesn't see this, they are Bash Fabrication. It is a small shop in SC. I have a version of his sliders on my 4Runner and he does pretty much all of my work. If you have specific things you are looking for he will work with you to make sure you have them spec'd how you want.

I have a 3" Icon with ProComp wheels and Cooper 285x70x17. I had serious rubbing, bad enough that it was snagging the mud flap extension (trail) and causing the vehicle to pull hard to left.

Solved with a "Body Chop" when Demello installed my bumper - no more rubbing and I really like the 285s.
