What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

How many miles did you get out of them? How would you rate your driving? Aggressive, average or driving Miss Daisy? :D

I just replaced my pads and rotors at 102k miles on my ‘17. I could have probably kept my original rotors but decided to put new ones on since I won’t need to replace pads for another 5 years or so.

I’d say I’m between average and aggressive in driving style.

Went OEM all around.

The color of the skid plate has always annoyed me. I took care of it today and it is on of the most satisfying things I've done to the 4Runner!

looks good , I used rustoleum on mine and its held up very well over the past 5 years. It can use a touch up though

I guess that's an advantage over say powder coating. Paint is more easily touched up. Also, I suspect powder coating wouldn't hold up much if any better than paint to rocks on the trail.

Mounted rear window Molle panels from Cali Raised, the only ones I could find that are made to fit with a 3rd row. I'll post pics as soon as I can, but for now you'll have to take my word for it :wink2:

Changed the oil and filter, engine air filter, and greased the zerks. Next day off I'm changing the diff oil and replacing the tail light assemblies. If I can figure them out I'll be changing the headlight bulbs to Xenon Depot Xtreme Pro's I just got, but the installation procedures are confusing so far. Might have got the wrong ones.

Hey folks,

Lots done since I bought the 2022 Off Road Premium about three weeks ago. I picked her up “used” with only 637 miles! The original purchaser ordered pretty much every option, including the factory Toyota dash cam and off road 360 camera.

My 4Runner is KDSS equipped and has a RevTek 432 lift, installed by the dealer, along with 275 K02’s on TRD Pro wheels. It came to me with that equipment.

So far, I’ve done the following:

* replaced the silver bumper trim with black from the TRD Pro

* OEM TRD Pro grille

* Viper Cut (awesome job by Brad Le)

* SSO washer tank skid plate (Southern Style Off-road)

* Cargo area bin cover (Solidifi3D - shown in photo)

* VLED Triton Extreme rear turn signals & backup lights

* VLED Triton Extreme front turn signals & front side marker lights

* VLED 9005 Micro Extreme installed in former DRL location as auxiliary high beams (removed halogen DRL bulbs)

* Yota LED sequential smoked mirror turn signals and led puddle lights

* YotaLED grille “Raptor” lights

* Brite Box Anytime fog light controller

* KC Slimlight LED lights on front bumper

* SwitchPros 9100 controller with SDHQ dash panel mount

* Wilson Drive Reach cell phone booster

* Midland MTX575 GMRS radio

I did some of the work myself, had a dealer install the bumper trim, and a local shop I know did the wiring for the antennas & aux lights.

The Wilson booster and Midland radio are controlled by the SwitchPro panel and each have their own brand stubby NMO antenna mounted in the rear roof area.

All lighting is controlled by the SwitchPro panel too, with the aux high beams, bumper spot lights, and (incoming) hood scoop light bar all on with the high beams, auto dimming with low beam, and fully selectable.

The Brite Box Anytime is wired to the SwitchPro (input 5) for main power, rather than the battery. That trigger is set to “ignition on” so it allows my Toyota “premium led” fog lamps to do double duty as my DRL, but they go off with the ignition off (unlike the Brite Box wiring that stays hot all the time). The Brite Box also allows for fogs to remain on with high beams, but there is an OEM style fog light switch in the lower left dash, so I can turn them off as desired.

Yet to do is the hood scoop light bar, currently in production at Armor Light Co. I’ll do the black TRD Pro scoop at the same time.

Also on the list is some type of dash mount for accessories, phones, etc. I’ve reserved one input on the SwitchPro for the auxiliary USB that will mount to that dash setup.

I picked up the MILLERCAT skid plate to protect the catalytic converter area, and will eventually do full HD skids when I decide the brand.

I wanted some additional rear lighting, so I just ordered the new C1R LED pods from Diode Dynamics. These are 2” square pods that will mount to existing locations under rear bumper. A plug & play harness goes in line before the 7-pin trailer wiring and provides added white led light in reverse, normal red led as a supplemental tail light, and bright red led as a supplemental brake light. Those were just announced (along with their new hitch pod version) and should ship in late November.

Here are some before and after photos of my build.

Hoppy

Reference the above post:

These are the stock 2022 LED low & high beams, then the High Beams plus the Auxiliary High Beams I installed in the old DRL positions.

Toyota added bi-led lights in 2022, but it does not appear they changed the overall housing. This makes sense as it would be silly to create new housings for a vehicle in its last 18-24 months of model life.

Anyway, the auxiliary high beams do a really nice job of filling in the dark spots and it’s definitely an upgrade.

Did a coolant drain and fill (35k miles) after watching Viking's Garage vid: Toyota 4Runner • FREE Maintenance Tech Tips - Antifreeze/Coolant service (Drain/Fill) Part 5 - YouTube
I did drop the skid plate, and then super simple process. Adding to routine maintenance every 15 - 20k, should have started a little earlier.

Then added a molle panel to back hatch. I like the Victory panel but didn't want the weight. I'm going to be using it for only really light items; Goal Zero lantern, collapsable fly fishing rod, gloves, towels, paper towels etc... the Pelican 1510 panel fits perfect on the ridges. Hindsight I didn't even have to remove the door panel using supplied screws. Love that it can come off really easy with their locking system. I also use one in the tool box on the inside of the lid, super handy.

Not challenging you, just asking… why every 15-20k?
Maybe over maintenance but after reading up on it did seem to make sense to refresh every x amount of miles vs just waiting to 100k to do a flush. Try to keep fluid as new as possible, knowing the radiator drain and fill doesn’t completely change all the fluid.
Could be wrong but for $25 a gal for coolant, once and an awhile, it satisfies the maintenance OCD I have with this rig.

How do you control the “auxiliary high beams?” Do they turn off via the SwitchPro controller when the projectors are on low beam?

Fair enough! I’ll do more frequent than minimum recommended by factory schedule as well. Will my more frequent changes make mine last longer? Who knows, but The Car Care Nut has persuaded me. I plan to drive mine ‘til the wheels fall off, but if for some reason I don’t whoever gets it will get an immaculately maintained vehicle. As a purchaser of used vehicles myself (tho my 2023 TRD Pro was purchased new) I know I value that above all else—and I suppose it’s “corny” or whatever, but I also respect the vehicle as well as any other future owners if their are any. I put my money and effort where my mouth is. After warranty I do everything (maintenance-wise, and small repairs, e.g., hub bearings) myself—making it much less expensive to do. Under warranty the dealer does everything—JMHO.

good to hear
I had a vibration problem with the nitto's.....brought it back to dealer 2x.......they stepped up and replaced all 4 nitto's with new ones.....seems to be way better, meaning no vibration or steering wheel wobble

I have been reading comments from other TRD PRO owners that like the KO2's but claim both the KO2's and Nitto Grapplers suck in rain and snow. I would be interested in your experiences if you have driven with them in the rain. I live in New England, but I hide in florida during the winter so --- not worried about snow. I have a landcruiser if I come back to new england and there is snow - I take that.

I live in Houston so my experience is mostly with rain, though I have driven a GX470 in Colorado with KO2s and they are great in snow too. Honestly neither the KO2s nor the Nittos are great in rain, but the Nittos seemed to have less grip.

Drove around today and encountered some bison.

Today I swapped in a K&N panel filter and installed the “Airflow Accelerator” that comes with the TRD cold air intake.

The added airflow seems to make it a bit more responsive, but it could be placebo effect.

Wife's running errands in it and taking it in for an oil change and lube job (and fluid check) before our long trip to SoCal begins.

How many miles did you get out of them? How would you rate your driving? Aggressive, average or driving Miss Daisy? :D

Got the truck with 40k, it's got 108k now. Pads had been done once, rotors were oem still. I'd say i drive avg to aggressive, although I've been trying to be more like miss daisy since I went to 285's haha

My 2011 got new rotors and pads at 117K. I went all OEM. How do you like the results? Did you go OEM?

I went with Akebono ceramic pads and Centric rotors. All good so far, no noise and seems to be pretty similar to stock braking power. Haven't got to really test them yet as Akebono suggests 500 miles of easy stopping as opposed to doing a bed in process. Headed to the mountains in a couple weeks, so should get a better idea then
