What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

May 2023 ORP took a rock chip in the center of the windshield about a month ago. We are on a 5-year windshield replacement program with the local Toyota dealer in Missoula, MT, but will wait until winter is over to have it replaced. For the interims, wife had it repaired so it would not spread and the shop warrantied the work or they would replace the windshield.

This am, returning from Coffee social, temp was 10F, and watched as both sides split out, one at a time:

The cracks have now fully extended themselves across the windshield and a vertical crack developed. Wife took it back to the repair shop and they simply refunded the money. Then she took it to the Toyota dealer who advised her to wait until the winter season is done and then make the claim under the windshield insurance.

We crack a windshield almost every winter here in Montana. Once you get a chip, it will crack due to the temperature extremes. OEM glass makes no difference.

Mounted up the trifecta RCI steel skids package..engine, trans, t-case, and cat guards for the cherry on top.

Wanted to have something more functional than raptor lights so I installed a pair of LED spot fog lamps on the plastic crossmember below the hood line. Just gotta get a proper switch but otherwise I'm satisfied with the result.

Definitely more functional.

I’m removing my “Raptor” lights and have a Rigid Amber Pro SR series bar arriving this week. Using SDHQ brackets it will go behind upper grille.

I did similar to you, hanging a pair of KC Slimlight LED driving lights below the plastic crossmember.

Finally replaced my 20inch spare! Been looking for a reasonably priced single 17inch ORP wheel/tire to replace my 20inch spare for almost exactly a year. Feels good to finally get it in there. It is so insane how heavy the 20inch wheels are, I'd guess more than double the weight of the 17inch ORP wheels. Lucky I didn't need to use it while running the ORP wheels on my 4runner. Also greased up the spare crane mechanism, going to try lowering it and raising it up with every oil change going forward.

Just little stuff:

1. Blacked out the TRD lettering on the fake tRD skidplate. I kinda sorta wish the CTH skidplate didn't have the TRD lettering because it isnt a genuine TRD skidplate. Either way, the red lettering on my truck gave the ronald McDonald vibes (due to the yellow lights). I think the blacked out skidplate hits a little bit differently. Still have the OEM TRD skidplate if i want to go back to silver and red.

2. Blacked out my precleaner on my snorkel head. The original precleaner filter is red, and I replaced it with a black HVAC foam filter. Now, my snorkel head looks like a regular safari ram snorkel head.

3. No more lasfit 22 inch lighter in the upper grill area. Reason for this was due to the demello bumper, I wasn't getting enough airflow to the auxiliary tranny cooler I had installed (which is right behind the upper grill area). The tranny cooler did work well enough with the light bar blocking the air flow, but I wanted more consistency with the transmission temps, (wanted peaks and valleys with the tranny temps and not spikes.)

4. flush mounted front camera above my license plate (cant see it in pic). Drilled a hole, install camera, and had a audio installer rewire the camera to fit the anytime camera harness that I had previously installed.

Your truck is fine the way it is.

It just felt weird having a fake TRD skidplate, with bright ass red letters (in the wrong font and size). I felt like i was trying to misrepresent those skid plates as something it isn't. So since I can't get rid of the TRD logo i'll try to minimize them.

Got it on a lift today for help with oem locker actuator which we got sorted and now works great. Pulled sliders off while on lift and got those and new rear recov points to a friend for powder coat. Prepping for fluid film underneath.

Got to drive through the Wild Horses Wind Farm on the way to the Colockum wilderness. Shortly after our picnic we hit DEEP snow and spent the next several hours in various stages of stuck and unstuck. It was well after dark by the time we made it back to pavement. Much fun was had by all!

Was also in the snow. But i parked the Toyota and did the rest of the meters in altitude on the touring skis.
With the Toyota, there are simply more off-road parking options.
The blizzak dm-v3 winter tires were definitely worth it. Icy mountain road and deeper snow, always safe so far.

Installed Auxbeam 8 gang switch. Took me over two hours while making silly mistakes along the way. Should've read the instruction more thoroughly. I attached black ground wire coming from the distribution box to negative terminal of the battery and was wondering why the control panel was not working. SMH.... Anyway cut off all the wires from my Baja design ditch light and connected them. Works nicely without the clutter and wires. Next up winch bumper, winch and extreme led light bar!

That thing still looks pretty much new! 344k is insane and I doubt mine will see that in its entire lifetime. I plan to keep it forever but it only sees between 5-7k per year if that. Good to know these things hold up so well.

TBH we are in that phase of the vehicle's life where we expect things to fail. The fan clutch was a surprise and outside my experience reference. Alternator went at 320K, but that is about 100K miles more than other reports here. I probably need to squeeze in a preventative water pump change sometime this year. Starter will eventually go, but that should give us some warning. All of these are why I got her the 2023 ORP, while keeping the 2014 SR5.

I looked real hard at the Shiftpod before buying our Gazelle. I just couldn't find a way to justify that cost for a ground tent. This was back when Gazelles were still sub-$300.

That looks like an ice hut with fancy metallic material on it lol. When it's cold out(like negatives) I have gone camping with my friend and we would set up one of our ice huts and hang out in it at camp.

I looked real hard at the Shiftpod before buying our Gazelle. I just couldn't find a way to justify that cost for a ground tent. This was back when Gazelles were still sub-$300.

Yup, upgraded from a gazelle. The shift pod mini is smaller than the T3 that I had.

Shiftpod is basically a insulated gazelle w/ better materials.

I like them both, i just got tired of freezing my balls off in the gazelle lol.
