What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

how is this different than OD off switch 4runners came with? Isn't the purpose of that switch to lock out the torque converter? Did yours not come with that switch?...or am I missing something?

...side note...lets meet up! Citrus Heights to Antelope! We're basically neighbors haha:yo:

Part of the reason is I just like messing with stuff. I am also planning to re-gear and my engine pings sorta bad at some RPM ranges so a little extra control will help me avoid that. The switch on the shift column is for OD, or '4th gear' and downshifts to 3rd. Both still will lock up the torque converter over 50 MPH. The switch allows me to drive 3rd unlocked or 4th unlocked as well as 3rd locked or 4th locked. Useless for most people but helpful for my over-modded 4Runner.

Yeah I live just off Antelope Rd near 80! Not that far at all. If you've seen an obnoxiously loud tan 4Runner with red TRD logos that's me lol

ok...so im not trying to be rude...just trying to learn....so whats the advantage of doing what you say. until I got into the 4runers...well other than work trucks....everything I owned.... drove or rode was a manual,,,well maye thats not true...there was some other auto mixed into the lot.

Meant to post this yesterday, but I filled up with 90 octane (mid-grade) non ethanol fuel. I’m on vacation and where I’m at offers non ethanol in that flavor, so I said why not. I’ve never, ever used anything other than regular 87 in my rig in the 8.5 years I’ve owned it, but so far good results. No knocking or anything out of the ordinary. I will say that it does seem to be a bit peppier, a bit more responsive at the pedal, but it could be all in my head. Either way I’m excited to see what kind of results it will yield

Octane is ONLY to resist ping/pre-ignition/detonation. Simply put, it's harder to ignite/the flame front takes longer which results in less "BANG", or at least less quickly so the piston is already through the power when the last of the fuel burns. In the real world, it's a theoretical loss in power (I couldn't measure it on a dyno with a carbed motorcycle), maybe EFI can adjust enough to provide a smidge of improvement over 87 (or 85 if you're at elevation)? Regardless, it's not likely it's a measurable difference... perhaps what you're feeling is due to a lighter-than-normal wallet?

You should see a little bump in fuel economy as gas is more energy-dense than ethanol. Not usually enough to warrant the Massive price differences.

If OD off doesn't lock out the TC then why do we see such a dramatic drop in trans temps? TC is a huge heat conductor for the transmission. I will be going up hwy 80 into the mountains and push OD off and RPM's go up and trans temps start dropping dramatically. I've always assumed this is due to OD off locking out the TC...

I'm up where Antelope road turns to Elverta. I have yet to see a tan with red logo 4runner. But I am surprised by how many modified third gens are in our area. I get stopped all the time at grocery stores or Home Depot by folks wanting to talk about third gens. Even on the road other third gen enthusiasts wave and nod as we pass...

Finished TBU

With some generous help in the forum I was able to properly bleed the brakes using Earl's Solo Bleeds on my '96 SR5 4x4 after doing the 199 TBU with Stop Tech braided steel lines yesterday.

Even found a gravel road to actuate the ABS several times and bled them again for good measure. Can't say for certain that it helped but it sure didn't hurt!

And it wasn't too soon to flush that fluid! Went through 96oz in total.

Just does the brake pedal feel just as firm or does it take more push? I think im going to try an bleed mine again for like the 5th time to see if I can find more air. my TBU has felt a little soft the first push for the last 6 years since I installed.

Changed the oil, changed the trans oil with MT-90, and added a ExtremeLed stealth bar with some Amazon mounts on the new bumper.

I've been dealing with warped rotors for nearly 40k over the past 9 years so my expectations were through the roof. Between my wishful thinking and the way I'd read some of the TBU posts here, I'd hoped/assumed it would feel different, as in a very firm pedal and easy to lock them up with all the new stopping power.

What mine feel like now is what I expect solid brakes should feel like. It feels like I now have complete control over the brakes based on the amount of pressure I put on the pedal. That's a novel idea, right? A small amount of pressure on the pedal and I start slowing. More pressure, more stopping. I would say the pedal is firm but definitely doesn't take much effort to push. In no way does it feel mushy. I had someone stop abruptly in front of me today and my instinct was to start pumping the brakes as I've grown accustomed to but before the pedal was halfway to the floor I'd already come to a near stop. Hope that helps.

Now I just have to ship the old calipers back and hope Rock Auto accepts them. But even if they don't I'm still calling this a win!

EDIT: Oh, and braking on the exit ramp without all the shudder and shaking? Priceless!

Ha, not much really. No point to doing it unless you are looking to stay in a certain power band going up mountain roads and passes like I am. Cruising on flat roads it's absolutely pointless.

I don't have a trans temp sensor so I can't comment on temperatures. The supercharger puts more pressure on the transmission fluid from all the extra torque so I'm probably running hot no matter what lol!

My 4Runner doesn't have any off-road mods so it doesn't get much attention, but I sorta did that on purpose. Not quite a "sleeper" yet but getting close. Looking forward to when I start smoking all these cheap turbo 4 sports cars.

Went to change out my blower motor and noticed this little guy is broken, got a nice hole into it! Anybody know exactly what this thing is?

When you are driving along and choose to turn overdrive off it forces the transmission top gear to be 3rd gear but now allows the torque converter to lock up in 3rd gear (when overdrive is on torque converter lock up is only allowed in 4th gear). When the torque converter locks up it generates a small amount of the heat it would normally be making if the torque converter were locked up. I believe torque converter lock up with overdrive off in a stock 4Runner occurs around 40 mph at moderate throttle vs around 46 mph with minimal throttle in 4th gear with overdrive on.

TLDR; overdrive off lets the torque converter lock up in 3rd gear. The torque converter causes most of the heat in a transmission when it is unlocked.

I reached down and found my swollen clit with one hand while squeezing my own breasts with the other. He was right; once he was in, it did feel better.

I carefully adjusted my position, moving from kneeling to squatting on his cock. I brought my feet close to his hips as I leaned forward and held his knees. He held his hands on my hips as I road his cock like a jockey. My butt farted around his shaft as more of him went in, but he didn't say anything. The KY worked it's magic as I eventually impaled myself on his shaft with almost no pain at all.
I was starting to work up a sweat. I had no idea sex could be such a workout.
Vincent moved back toward the headboard, bringing me along with him. He pulled my arms back and placed them at his sides and had me put my feet on his upper thighs. I relaxed against his chest as he reached down and found my clit. He rubbed my nub until bringing me to the brink of orgasm, but stopped before I could come.
He spread my ***** lips with his fingers and commented on how wet I was. Then, he reached down with both hands and pulled my legs back, spreading my knees wide while he bounced me on his cock. My pretty feet flopped around uncontrollably while he ****ed me up the ass as deep as his cock could go. How long could he keep this up? Five minutes? Ten?
I started to feel the shudder coming on again. I couldn't believe what was happening. Was I actually going to have an orgasm from anal sex, too? His thrusts into my butt were hard and fast. My butt cheeks smacked his thighs and his balls slapped my open, wet *****. I let my head fall back and just let him **** me. I didn't even hear when the hotel room door beeped or when it closed. I didn't even know Mike was in the room until he spoke.

"Dude, are you in her ass?" Mike said loud enough for the adjacent rooms to be able to hear.
"Mags, you likin' it?" he asked.
"She likes it," Vincent said from behind me, pulling my legs apart wider. Mike looked at my clean shaven ***** with lust in his eyes, and I felt even closer to coming.
He started quickly taking off his clothes.
"Uh... uh... aren't you going to wait... for Vincent... to be done?" I managed to mutter.
"I'm not waiting for shit," Mike replied, cock already bobbing in front of him.
Vincent put an arm around my waist and positioned us so our legs were off the side of the bed. With him more or less sitting on the edge of the bed, and me half standing, half sitting on his cock, Vincent brought my feet together and bent me forward, his sex firmly in my ass.

Mike positioned himself in front of me, and I didn't need any prompting to take his cock in my mouth. I steadied myself with one hand on Vincent's knee while stroking Mike's shaft with the other. When I didn't think Mike's cock could have gotten any harder, he pushed me back against Vincent, bringing my legs back and spreading them wide enough to cause my ***** to open.

Posted locally to me is a 1998 2WD with a rebuilt 22R engine, which has about 85k on it. I'm starting to look around for a go to work, do the school run, go camp nearby rig. Life is getting busier with a kid starting "real school" this year, and extracurriculars and my wife has claimed the Venza for herself. I'm half-tempted to go find another one! But, I do like these earlier 4Runners and this one has popped up locally. Is it maybe weird putting the older engine in the Gen3 4Runner, but maybe it's a whole thing?
Are you sure it's a 22R and not a 3RZ engine. Someone would have had to go through a lot of trouble to swap that in and make it run correctly. They would have had to change the ECM, wiring harness, transmission, and motor mounts at the very least. If it's a 22R engine swap I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot stick. If anything ever goes wrong with it or you have to trouble shoot it you are entirely on your own. There is nothing out there that's going to be able to help you.
