You going to stretch the boots to save them from tearing again as easy?

I decided to replace the rear wiper before the rains start. Of course, the previous owner didn't change it....ever. No surprise that one bolt seized up and stripped out while I tried to remove it. I guess 19 years and nearly 400,000 miles will do that.

Decided to pay the $2 admission fee to Pick & Pull and pull the bolts off a junker instead of trying to match it at the parts store.

Got home and drilled the stripped bolt out with a left-handed drill bit and installed the new one. Worked perfect.

Bring on the rain!

Halfway through the LED swap

Starting off easy with my new-to-me 2000 SR5. Tonight I swapped out some ugly yellow and green-condomed bulbs for white LEDs: three main gauge backlights, turn signals, ignition ring, dome lights, and license plate lights. Center console stack lights are next!

I used #74 LEDs for the gauge backlights and turn signals, and they fit just fine. I couldn't find any #24 LEDs on Amazon. For the dome lights I used 3528 36-SMD LEDs. License plate were #194 LEDs.

And some pics:

The hot spotting is definitely worse in the picture. It's noticeable if you are looking for it, but I don't think it's distracting.

Grabbed the #70 5" spring from the hardware store for the clutch bushing work around fix. Didn't have to take anything apart as the previous owner had used a shorter spring and bailing wire in place of the #70 spring. Grabbed the right angle long reach pliers; out with the old, in with the new. 5 minute job.

Also studied the next steps in my shade tree head gasket job.

Anyone got tips for timing pulley bolt removal? On hold at that step at the moment.

Hey man, just saw this sorry been super busy at work...anyway I just asked D Wilson this same question if he stretched his autozone specials...I did not stretch them and am wondering if I should...even though I don't wheel this thing...
my bud who installed them, although he is more familiar with american pickups, jeeps, etc said the angles I got are fine and shouldnt worry too much esp. if I don't wheel it...
but I can always stretch them regardless of what he thinks...

I still have the OEM axles with torn boots, should I sell them? only like 108K miles on them....thanks for the help

Spent a short bit of time putting a remote breather on the rear axle on Tuesday. 2 fittings, about 5' of 3/8" hose, a couple of hose clamps.

While I was under there, I half heartedly scraped at the diff housing - mostly the thinner rear cover, to knock of rust flakes and loose paint, then sprayed it with some rust converter. I really need to spend some time on it and get it really cleaned off and POR it, I'll be kicking my ass if I let it go long enough to perforate and leak oil.

If you have 2.5" or more front lift you want to stretch. Sucks because its a PITA and need a shop or purchase a tool to remote the boot.

Offroad doesnt madder about the boots. If it was an offroad only rig it would less likely tear. The constant rubbing when they are spinning is what causes them to tear since they will rub themselves through. Even stretched after time they still tear.

KEEP THE OEM AXLES! Put one in the back when you go wheeling just incase you need to swap.

You can get new boots and have them cleaned, greased and rebooted. They will be better than the non oem ones.
