What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Simple mod, but something I have wanted to do for a long time. Removed the rear tail gate pull strap and installed a new one out of leather that I made in our leather shop. Then took the old pull strap and used it to mount my maglite to on the drivers side using the hidden holes for what would be a handle.

Did the swing mod today. Also known as the "Charlotte Johnson Mod".

Actually, I finally got my Shrockworks bumper adjusted properly. No more large gaps between body and bumper.

Still a couple more things on my punch list to get done before the year's first wheeling trip next weekend. Stay tuned.

Huh... i've got a bit of play in my steering wheel too, replaced the rack and that made a HUE difference, but she still isn't "tight like she should be", thansk for putting this up man!

I replaced my crappy Dura(don't)last lbj's. They were only on there for a year and 6000 miles. never again.

While I had everything apart I also replaced my wheel studs with new rear studs. They are supposed to be longer, making it easier to put the wheel back on with a .25" spacer (due to the 231mm tundra brakes and 6 spoke wheels.) Anyways they wound up only being 2.5mm longer, which does make is a little easier but not much. The ones I got were doorman studs and they were just shy of 49mm long. Does anyone know of longer studs that work?

Threw a weight on my E load Duratracs this week so got them re-balanced today. Man those things are LOUD when not in balance.

Well... I tried to put in my sweet new OTRATTW Elocker switch today, but I ordered the wrong one so that didn't work out. So I decided to make a couple decals.

New Rock Sliders

I added some savage off-road rock sliders. I had a local shop add some diamond plate inserts then primed and painted them. Today I had them installed. I love the new look.

changed TC and tranny oil. I did rear diff a few thousand ago when I did new bearings. Realized I didn't have a hex socket to change front diff so I'll do it later this week.

Also found a pretty nasty dent to my skid plate that I really don't know how i picked up. I'm hoping to get some aftermarket skids soon.

With the Help of Numerous threads on changing the Water Pump/timing Belt I decided to give my Newly acquired 2002 4runner some Weekend wrenching.

I started last night after work and removed the Radiator, Shroud and Broke the Crank Bolt Loose, I figured I would get that stuff out of the Way so "Maybe" I wouldn't have to spend all Saturday in the Shop. Long Story short... It took me roughly 5 hours to complete the task, I think I could do it a little quicker if I had to again, But wasn't too bad. I probably spent at least a hour trying to figure out how to get the timing belt back on, Even with the tensioner compressed it just didn't want to slip around the pulley's/Idler.. GRRR... I finally took the Center idler off, Lined up the belt and timing marks and then reinstalled it.. Worked like a Charm and amazingly after 2 full revolutions the Marks still lined up, HA..

Not 3rd Gen related, but helped my Dad change the rear shocks on his '95 SR5. He put these on at 75k miles, now has 220k. The right one was a PITA to get off with it bent like that. Left one the breaker bar just broke the stud, nut didn't even budge.

Got my winch today and figured I can install it even though I have plans to powder coat my bumper in the near future.

Test fitting the winch and it fits like a glove!

Now we are tired so this is were we stopped the cables need to be extended unfortunately.... a job for tomorrow...

Yesterday I changed all three steering rack bushings. I've been getting a bad vibration around 60-70 mph and to check I had my wife work the steering while I was under the car. I saw the rack moving a good bit.

$23 for the bushing set and ~ 3 hours of work. I took a bit because the vertical bushing didn't want to set into place easily. Once it got cooperative, things went back into place easily and after tightening everything back up, the ride feels much better.

I'm happy I finally found the issue.
