why is that axel such a weird color? They are suppose to be a kind of orangey-red kind of color, you must have bought the wrong one

I think you might be referring to that thing called "rust". I hear it's that kind of color, but I can't be sure. It's one of those magical things us here in Arizona only hear about! Kind of like snow...

With the weather finally starting to catch up to spring, I got out and greased the driveline, cleaned the MAF, PCV, throttle body, and interior. I also re-installed the roof basket.

I still don't get the built not bought discussion. What is built?

Does it mean one did not buy the truck already modded out? So if I buy pre-fabbed sliders and bumpers is the truck built?

I'd say there are very few on this site (and I'm not one of them) who actually welded on their own truck. Its pretty cool sh#t those who do it. Dirtco comes first to mind. Also COB since he converted his to 4WD which is just plain badass. :washing:

First post!
Bought a 98 sr5 with 70k miles last Saturday.

Today I changed the timing belt, water pump, and belts/ tensioner. As well as a Mobil 1 oil change and trans flush with trans cooler. Also sanded the skid plates down and rubberized them.


I've been busy. This week is I still need to coat the whole underneath of the car and change the diff fluids. And I guess get it registered.

Brakes and lift are also coming soon

finally got my HID projectors installed, not bad for $100 total install

Changed out my rear hatch door latch so I can get my alarm and remote start installed soon. Also got all the wiring done for my Auto-Dimming mirror. Duo job today with the help of my Dad on the wiring.

After a year search I found a roll bar from an 85 on CG for $20! Can't wait to install!

I was always curious what my axle ratio was, so I did the spin test. Actually, I did it a couple of times and ways, just to be sure. Was afraid that it could have been 3.909 and I was expecting 4.10. I was happy to find out that it's a 4.30 (open) :bravo: So perhaps bigger tires are in my future!
Then I ran some silicone lube over the door seals to keep them from squeaking when I'm off road. Ran the grease gun over everything, checked axle seals, CV boots and brakes. I noticed a hint of burning oil smell when I had been getting out of the truck recently- Found the valve covers were a little wet. Most of the bolts were barely finger tight, so they got torqued down and hopefully now I won't need new gaskets after all. Finished off with an engine cleaning, so I'm ready for wheeling' season. :zoom:
