Got 285's and same wheels with 3.75" back spacing instead of the 4.5 I had, because Discount Tire replaced the wheels for free. Though 285's just don't look as big as I thought they would compared to my 265's :Cry:

Did you go with the Cooper ATP's? I really thought about getting those (probably should have), but heard they run small.

Yeah - I research everything I buy to death, and knew these tires had excellent reviews. What I failed to remember was stumbling across the one or two posts across the entire internet about them running small. It's 100% true, and a guy from Cooper called me this morning to chat. First thing he did was calculate the size of the 285/75/16, which he mentioned was 32.8 (I knew this).

Second, he looked up the OD of the ATP, which ended up being 32.5something (I also learned this yesterday after purchasing, but had to do a live chat with someone at Discount Tire Direct). So yeah, they do run .3" below average while some 285's end up being a full 33" (or some a hair bigger even). I measured my rear tire yesterday for fun and while the method may not be perfect, it appears it's maybe 1/32" under 32", inflated to 37 PSI, from ground to the very top of the tread. Dead level concrete slab.

Oddly enough my Dynapro LT265/75/16's with ~6k miles on them are quieter than these new tires, maybe rubber compound? I don't doubt that they're a great tire, but the a) undersizing, b) rather bland sidewalls, even compared to dynapro, and c) blender noise they produce is enough for me to return them to Discount Tire. Picked up my old stuff this morning in my Tacoma and talked to a sales guy, he's totally cool with me exchanging. Will be going for possibly Duratrac, or whatever I land on after a couple hours of research and beers this evening.

I wouldn't sweat it.

My 33s are under 32" with that actual weight of the truck on them. And that is with at least 40 PSI in the tire.

And it is impossible to tell 0.3" diameter difference (0.15 at the tires edge lol) from even 5 feet.

Replaced my lower ball joint

I replaced my lower ball joint today. I remove one of the lower ball joint dust boot to check for sign of wear. looks good but you never know 180k miles.

Yeaaa got the duratracs. We'll see how they do. I've had like 8 pairs of tires in the last 5 years (various vehicles) and have either replaced whole sets due to sidewall damage or something similar on my Subaru, sidewall damage on Tacoma, or they've gone with vehicles when I've sold them. Hoping I can keep these until they're approaching racing slick territory. Actually, I hope they outlast the motor. Or do I...

Since it was replacing seats, I decided to clean the carpets! This fall or spring when it's cooler I am going to pull all the carpets and do a bedliner.

So this SUV was built before sll the safeties were made for child's seats. I have a two month old and the infant seat has two safety attachments, just took a grade 8 bolt and drilled into the bracket. I'm pleased with it.

Well, after having a good and rare opportunity to rate two tires in three days (hah), the duratracs are far more quiet. All things were equal, since they were on the same wheels, but yeah - the duratracs have a pleasing hum that you can make disappear with low volume on your stereo. Stereo off, I actually like the noise. From my research they might get a little louder over time, but it'll take me a few years to reach even 1/3rd of the tire's life.

The coopers sounded like I was driving with 4 blenders grinding ice cubes. I really don't know why, as I had mentioned in another post, my Hankook Dynapro ATm's were quieter even with almost a year of service, same LT/Load range E.

With the tread pattern so similar to the dynapros all I can think is that the coopers having a different rubber compound or something, or the slight difference in the tread blocks and siping makes them noisier. Can guarantee anyone riding in my truck yesterday vs today would agree the Duratracs are easier on the ears (and far easier on the eyes!)

You're using that for the main installation of the car seat? Using the latch system? That's not something I would chance with the safety of my child and if something happened where it failed and it was my fault instead of just using the seat belt. There is a reason that there is no company that makes a retrofit for the main anchors, it's too risky when the seat belt works just as well.
