What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

You're using that for the main installation of the car seat? Using the latch system? That's not something I would chance with the safety of my child and if something happened where it failed and it was my fault instead of just using the seat belt. There is a reason that there is no company that makes a retrofit for the main anchors, it's too risky when the seat belt works just as well.

Um? It's either the seatbelt alone, or use those and the seatbelt. I just pulled out the backseat on our new Camry and I promise you a grade 8 bolt is equal or better than what is factory installed. And I did mention it was a secondary.

I'm not trying to be rude about it. I'm just looking out for your kid. You said it has "two safety attachments," that doesn't specify anything, it led me to believe you were talking about the two latches on each side. And if you look at your manual for your car seat it will more than likely tell you not to use both methods of installation at the same time. The seatbelt alone works perfectly. And I don't see where you said it was secondary in your original post. I'm sorry if I came off rude or mean, car seats for kids are a pet peeve for me because kids don't have the choice. I don't like when I see people playing Russian roulette with kids when they don't use the car seats as intended by the manufacturer; not installing them correctly or not tightening the straps on the kid. Again I don't want to seem like I'm attacking you, I just want what's safest for your kid.

I thought I typed it differently. Both is recommended, not necessary, the seatbelt is a primary and the two attachments are a secondary. After seeing what auto manufacturers use, I see no issues whatsoever with a 1/4" grade 8 bolt as a secondary.

The car seat manufacturer also says than you can just set an infant carrier in a seat without the base and run the seatbèlt over it, and all that holds it in is a small slot for the belt. With minimal force it can slide out.

I see this like a helmet. A dot approved helmet, can be a piece of crap but its still dot approved. Car seats are no different, there is a minimum.

Here is the official release of MTD's Build 2.0 "The ForeRunner". Supercharged 5speed fun for days!

Yeah that has always seemed like a joke to me to just put a seat belt over the top of the seat, I don't even know why that is still considered an option.

But actually both is not recommended, if you google it then you can see reasons why they say not to use both. I've never seen any manufacturer reccomend both. Here's a screenshot from one manufacturers website. It's the bold on the bottom. And here's the link About LATCH - Britax USA

Were you out taking pictures of random shirtless dudes again? At least your 4Runner happened to make it into the picture. haha

Coming along I see. I am sure it can't happen fast enough. Are you swapping diffs too? I am pretty sure the manuals are 4.10 and the autos are 4.30. It would be a free step in the right direction in terms of gearing if you plan to run larger tires.

Painted the hood with plasti-dip to cover up the peeling clear coat then headed down to Big Sur for the day with the family. Ended up taking Coast Road back up which was a fun washboard road. My daughter kept calling me out to go faster, she's awesome.

Started last night, but that was cut short after witnessing someone got sliced in the face by their crazed family member which inevitably lead to police showing up and gathering knowledge on the incident from me.

I had a busy day planned for today doing the following:
Valve cover gaskets
Spark plug seals
Thermostat
TRD supercharger throttle body gasket
flow master 50 series muffler

so I started my hitting the engine with some degreaser to get it nice and clean to be worked on.
I started with the valve cover gaskets and spark plug seals. I've read multiple threads saying before removing the valve covers to check the bolts before hand and ensure they are tight. I got all the necessary things out of the way so I could access the valve covers. The bolts were looser than finger tight. A 3yr old could turn the bolts with 1 finger. So naturally I tighten everyone down and started to reassemble. With the throttle body and plenums off I decided to clean them up a bit to get any grime off
I installed the TRD throttle body gasket ( complete circle rather than stock D shape) then moved to the thermostat.
I drained all the coolant, removed lower radiator hose and then removed the metal tube/ cover from the thermostat. Sure enough thermostat was stuck open. Dumped the old one, installed the new thermostat, filled her back up with coolant and went to the local self service car wash to spray off the coolant from skid plates, etc.

cleaned her all up and with my wonderful luck I picked up a Bolt in my front right tire and some nails in my rear right tire. :(

I scored 2 50 series flowmaster mufflers off Craigslist for $50. I don't need both, but the guy wouldn't separate.
I went to a friends house and we welded it in place. Sounds good. Not too loud and obnoxious, not much of a drone inside at highway speeds, but will still set off alarms lol.

Tomorrow is tire shopping day now since I have 2 failing tires, one of which happens to be my spare
I ordered some 9w eagle eye LEDs off ebay. Scored a killer deal. 20 of them for $16.plan on using a pair in the lift gate for better lighting when Its open, mounting 1 on each mirror housing to light up side of the road, then rest will be going on front bumper, rear bumper, and roof rack once built.

We have a Chicco key fit. I have read the instructions several times and there is nothing stating that for our seat. I should have made the original post more detailed. Manufacturers are only required to test one restraint system. I have been all over the NHTSA and our manufacturers website, there is only one assumption, that a failure would/could occur due to a failure. Stating that the LATCH and the seatbelt "could" possibly cause a failure due to pressure on the same pieces. After an inspection/very in depth research prior to purchasing (several hours of research, and conversations with several retailers) we bought the chicco. I should have made it clear that the LATCH is used as a secondary and would only come into play if the seat belt either failed or for some reason the seatbelt was slow to lock, i.e. slamming on the brakes. One of the reasons for the purchase of the Chicco, is that it did not state "Do not use both" Just to double check my sanity tomorrow I am going to call the NHTSA and our seat manufacturer.

Honestly if we are in a crash bad enough for the seatbelt to fail it isn't going to be a pretty sight anyway. I would personally rather have some type of secondary, because if some slim chance that happened and the seatbelt did fail, could you live with yourself if you had the option??

I'll be the first to say it, that looks amazing!

Thanks!

I try to stop... It's and addiction...

Yea it is really going smoothly for the most part. I am not going to swap diffs mainly because everything is super rusty, in comparison, on the green one compared to the new one, plus I don't want to hurt the resale value on that one. I figure if it is going get regeared, I will be putting a front locker in aswell so I am going to hold off on that.

today i posted for the first time on this forum! figured everyone should see my hack job on a 97 base model... my beach cruiser

Added a 2nd grab handle to the driver side. Scored it at the local junkyard. Also grabbed a cargo cover for the rear too.

You seem to care and took time to research which is good. But here are some things I found from chicco's website.

<img src="http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p779/zacforsale/58C902F9-6EC2-4CBF-84BB-67CCC9D01432_zpsuqeolbzu.png">

Also the instruction manual for the keyfit, doesn't say DONT use both but says LATCH or seatbelt in the box in the top left.

<img src="http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p779/zacforsale/2F959AB4-64EC-4B70-8CA9-E7D3FB52F1D1_zpshthlpd6e.png" border="0">

And then from the nhtsa site. This at least says a few can use both but most do not but to check the car seat manufacturer and vehicle manufacturer. That wouldn't work in this situation for vehicle manufacturer.

In theory it makes sense to have a second option as a backup, and I don't think anything I say will change your mind. As long you are using the seat belt as the main installation then that is good, I was thinking in your original post that you were just going to use those bolts to install the seat. A LOT of people that have kids don't take the effort to learn anything about the car seats or care how they are installed or put their kids in the seat correctly, so when I saw that I wasn't sure if you were aware. I applaud you for actually doing research into it. I think if you are worried about having the latches as a back up, I would leave them kind of snug but loose, just as to not interfere with the functioning of the seat belt in case of an accident. Which I hope you never have something severe enough that it might come into play.

Did a wash and touch up paint. It got too hot, so this weekend I will give it a buff n wax. Then go get it dirty all over again.
