air filter box build

we've been getting just a shit ton of snow here in wyo/ colorado so i got bored and spent a little time tinkering in the shop today and rebuilt a mud,snow, and dust shield for my air filter used a square bucket and heat resistant paint. looks pretty good for what used to be a tidy cats bucket lol really easy mod to do as-well.

My gas fuel filler opening lid hinge spring (as they call it in parts) broke the other day. With some Gorilla Glue and 24hrs later, it is back in and working just fine.

I plan to get a new spring, part#77360-0E010, by the new year.

Found a hell of a deal on Craigslist and got rid of the faded split 3-spoke wheels in favor of some FJ cruiser wheels. Just need some new tires now.

Fitted my first Gen roll bar. Did it a little different from the other installs I've seen.

Still need to build the spare tire mount and powder coat it.

Did you extend/lengthen the rear legs instead of shortening the front legs? I thought about doing this and still might as I have a spare first gen bar.

Sort of. You have to drop the front legs. No way around it. But you only have to bring it down an inch. So down an inch in the front, up one in the back and widened about 1/4 inch. There's about a 1/16 th left between the bar and the window frame at the top.

Mostly finished my 99 cupholder conversion:



Included lights down in the cupholders--I can't remember who I got this idea from, I lost all of my notes a few months ago and don't have the link anymore. They're tapped off of the illumination wire for the rear window switch, so they turn on and dim correctly:



Ended up using the lid from my old 98 console, since the one I got was trashed and I didn't think I wanted to reupholster it after I looked at the foam underneath. Turns out you can use the 98 lid with pretty minor cutting and adding a new screw or two. Nasty foam on the left, old-new lid on the right:



I'm 3D printing a front panel with switch blanks so that I can keep my window switch there. It will replace the pocket on the front. I'll post a shapeways link once I get it refined (I'm sure it'll take an iteration or two to get it right.)

so the 99 highlander coils really only do about 1"? thinking that and maybe level kit versus a serious lift...no rubbing with these tires btw...

They are a set of Rocktek sliders for an FJ Cruiser. The length was perfect I just had to cut off one of the 4 legs since it landed right where the body mount was. The leg I had to cut off was one of the inner legs and didn't make a difference.
