What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Busted back glass when mowing. At least the glass breakage sensor on the alarm works or it may have been days before I knew. Anybody know the difference in glass with Standard heat and Heavy duty heat.

While I continue pondering the direction I wish to go with my lift/tires I decided to raise the front an inch in order to level it out a bit front to back.

I also took the grinder to my front skid when I had it up on the lift... While I was under there I noticed my LCA was contacting the skid and actually limiting my down travel. Had to take about 1/4" off of it on both sides.

Any negative effects on your gas mileage with this rubber?

I will have to wait and see. I basically drove it about an hour after I got the tires and the alignment from Firestone. While I am sure that my MPG has not improved, I am hoping that it hasn't changed too much for the worse.

I can say that they roll smooth. I was expecting a little more blocky feeling looking at the edge tread pattern. I also went from Michelin stock tires, to the BFG E-load tires. Our streets and highways are pretty messed up here, but the tires are handling it well. I was worried that they might feel too stiff, but they don't.

I will probably update my experiences in my thread timeline.

Honestly, my gas mileage has not changed by a noticeable amount from any of the weight gaining/wind resistance modifications.

The initial hit from the lift/tires, from about 18.5mpg "mixed driving", to 14-15 mixed, 17-18 on the freeway if I go 60 over a flat area, has not really changed... That's what I got a couple years ago without bumpers/gear/tent... That's what I get now. This is why I think so much of it has to do with the tires.

Humm.... I can see that. Mine isn't too bad... unless I'm doing hills. When I'm on Highway with hills... I find the truck searches gears a fair bit... and my mileage takes a hit... but on flatter ground it's alright. I'll tell you what I tell all my friends though... If I wanted to get good gas mileage... I'd drive a Prius. lol! I don't expect my 4Runner to be decent on fuel... but I don't use it as much as some of you do. Heck... I've only put on 126000kms on mine since 2004. :D

I've had cars, and now have my 2005 Tacoma to drive around in. The 4Runner is more of a toy to me... although I don't take it offroad much. It's kinda like my classic cruiser.... just not quite a classic yet... :)

Anyway, hope you get what you want.... I personally think 285's look alot better than 265's... but that's just my 2 cents. ;)

Turned my burnt out clock into a voltmeter. I really like it, very functional. Got the idea from another site.

Replaced bulbs with white leds.

Also replaced my dried out vacuum hoses with silicone.

Damn! You know what would be sweet? If I were to take my AFR gauge and put it where the clock is! I doubt it would be too difficult to swap in the display from the guage too.

Three bucket wash, a full wax job,and cleaned all the wheels.

Not bad for an 14 year old 4runner

I did the 231mm 13WL Tundra brake upgrade with the help of an old friend.

I used NAPA Eclipse calipers, NAPA Premium rotors, and Adaptive One pads.

While we were at it we did the rear brakes too. My parking/emergency brake isn't working now, but I'm hoping it's because the shoes haven't seated/self-adjusted enough yet. I hope they'll get themselves right after a week or two. I don't use my emergency break much, but it's a "security blanket" I like having.

(Sorry about the super large pictures. I couldn't figure out anyway to re-size attachments.)

Friday washed the 4runner and half way it started raining so I was like well its free water so I finished that way and yesterday at 309531 I changed the front breakes..

You need to go in and adjust the rear brakes most likely if your parking brake isn't working at all. Do a search for how to adjust them. Basically when I did mine I adjusted the shoes out until they just barely touched the drums, then I backed them off a bit. Once that is done and you confirm they are working see if your parking brake still doesn't work. If it doesn't but the brakes are properly adjusted then you need to adjust the parking brake upfront at the handle. There is a jamnut system you can adjust it with. This is also assuming your cable is good and the bellcranks aren't frozen.

Once you get it working you really should use it every-time you park it. It's easier on the transmission because you aren't rolling onto the parking pin every-time and it will keep the rear brakes adjusted properly.
