Thanks man! They look sick in person with the M/T's. Good looking tires make a huge difference in appearance. I've been staring at the truck non stop since I put them on and I had they guys at firestone drooling over the truck when I took it in for an alignment today.

I know exactly what you mean. I did the same thing after I put the 8 Holes and Duratracs on mine. :biggrin2:

Your's looks great too. Those were the other wheels I was looking at, but I slightly prefer the look of these wheels on my black truck like you said. My dad is looking for a set of those 8 hole wheels now for his Tacoma so he can run the 255/75/17 size tires too.

Spent quite a bit of time at etrailer today trying to figure out how to carry bikes with the 4xInnovations rear bumper and carrier. Really good people, tried their durndest to help set me up with what I wanted. Unfortunately unobtainium is still unobtanium.

If they made left swing out racks that would have possibly worked.
They don't. All right-hand swing.

She came up with something that would allow the tire carrier and thus hatch to open, it came straight out from the hitch with v-shape arms that could collapse to horizontal with the bikes off but it only for 2 bikes.

"That's gonna kill my departure angle" I said
"Departure angle?" was the reply
"You know, rocks."
"Rocks?"
"And the tandem won't fit."
"A Tandem?"
"And there's 3 bikes...."
"Spare carrier?"
"Manufacturer said no.....and the spare is too offset to carry the tandem"
"Rocks?"

I'm going to pair a 6" extension with a 4" rise (or drop, for those on-road adventures) with my Thule 4 bike Parkway. Won't be able to open the hatch in the rise position with the rack on, should be able to in the drop position. Also got an anti-rattle thingy.

Beggars, choosers, blah blah blah.

Hey, if anybody's got any thoughts maybe there's some magic potion I'm not aware of....
Moderate rocks. MTB tandem. Ellsworth Truth. Kid's mtb. Departure angle. Offset tire carrier opens to the right. Rocks. Nowhere to stash bikes (point to point wheeling). Hanging style hitch rack. I cannot physically get the bikes up on the roof basket. Husband says no front hitch- too many bug splats and a cover will interrupt air flow to engine.

Maybe one day I'll get around to designing something to get built. Dunno, having things like mustard tins and bike bottles (with bottle cage!) under the hood might portent to some doubtful rack engineering.

I'd be better off to follow RoofRack's plan-
go for ice creams!

It seems like the ideal solution would be to somehow mount the bikes to the swing arm tire carrier. Then the bikes would swing out of the way and you could open the rear hatch. Just a thought.

Yeah, have a 2" receiver in the lower carrier arm like AxleIke did...
that would take the worst of the rocking off the more vulnerable upper portion of the carrier as opposed to a spare tire rack on it (which is moot with the tandem anyway). It'd also be nice to have the bike rack up higher to avoid smacking the bike wheels. (All I can say is thank goodness for stretchy rubber holders! Broke almost all of them in the Maze district one year).
I'm not sure how much the carrier would like 100+ extra pounds on it when doing that moderate wheeling thing.
Still, I thought it was a great solution...gonna watch and see how it holds up for him.
Sure would be nice to open the hatch on trips without the rigamarole.

I would say black................if you do not like your wheel style, and you do not want to be able to see them very well. To me black wheels take away from the style and lines of the wheels, go through here and look at pics. Of rides with black wheels, you can hardly even tell what wheels they are. So i say anything but black. :gun5: :boxing:

I agree 100% with this, thinking about going a dark grey/silver.

Looks good. Those tires don't look as skinny as others I have seen in that size. I wish I could buy a BFG AT KO or Cooper Discoverer ST in that size. Your tire weighs about 4 pounds less each than my 275/70R17 Discoverer STs, which no doubt helps the mileage.

I know you can't get any BFG's other than the KMs that I have in this size, but I'm nearly certain you can get the Cooper Discovery ST Maxx in this size. I think I saw them on discount tire direct. I believe it is a C load range as well, I know I read posts of yours saying that you prefer that over an E for the weight and ride. I read into the 255/75/17 and 275/70/17 size a lot and I'm glad I went with this size, no rubbing, less weight, and less strain on the steering since the tires aren't as wide. I love that it is right between the ~32" tire and 33" tire that most people run. It's the perfect height I think for a mild 4Runner.

You are correct, I wouldn't run a Load Range E tire on a 4Runner--too stiff for our vehicle weight, and I was really bummed when BFG discontinued the D and E AT KOs, hence why I moved to Cooper. And you're right, the Discoverer ST Maxx is available in the 255/75R17 size. I wish Cooper published tire weights as I'm curious what it weighs in that size. I know my 275s are 50 lbs even.
