Yup, there's a few of us here, but not nearly as many as there are out west where they have all the cool trails too. There's a good amount of members in the Birmingham area though.

Yeah I just recently got on this forum so I'm not really up to date on everyone around this area. Rarely do I see a 4Runner with anything done to it around here

Installed an AirRaid intake tube (planned) while my battery charged so I could get to the auto store for a new battery (unplanned). I do agree that the ISR mod does give a better feel to acceleration from a stand still.

Finally welded on my panhard bar drop bracket, installed my rear bump extenders and put in CVJ axles with extended inner boots! No more rear end swinging and too much flex!

Turning on the ECT switch changes the shift points. It will hold the gear longer before shifting to a higher gear and will downshift to a lower gear sooner. Basically it's a tow/haul button. ECT stands for Electronically Controlled Transmission.

So does it also shift faster? I imagine that a slower shift with a payload would be harder on the clutch. Does this have any validity, or am I completely wrong? Thanks for the info (BTW).

I haven't noticed the shifts being any faster; in fact I can't really tell any difference at all. But I like the therory of higher shift points and better acceleration from the simple push of a button. While the benefits may very well be imaginary — I hold out hope that the Toyota engineers weren't just pulling our legs and that there is in fact some benefit.

Plus I'm a nerd and like to push buttons and shit... :biggrin1:

I'm really tempted to go with those cv axles, I guess you need to call them for the price?

Yep! You get the price and order on the phone. For the basic axles it is $100 each. With the extended silicone inner boots it was $150 each.

I don't do a ton of towing, but whenever I ascend a really steep hill (Eastern OK is quite hilly) I click on ECT; The way it was explained to me is it's like downshifting a manual; you don't have to push the acc pedal as far, and makes it overall easier when driving up steep terrain. Other than that (and the unusual tow) I keep it off.

I drive with ECT on all the time. It does hold a gear longer and shifts quicker. Great for racing up hills and pulling off the line. I was worried there might be fuel economy issues keeping it on all the time, but from my redneck research, there was no difference. So I choose to keep it on all the time. I do normally drive like a grandpa, but when I put my foot in it..... well its doesn't take off like a race horse, but there is a little more go with all the extra noise.

I laid under her screaming and cursing and got a sore neck. Then I drank! I ended up changing out the steering rack guide and bushings. Put on new stabilizer bar and end link bushings. Somehow broke one of the bracket studs. I guess it was it's time.

But before all of that, I tore apart and cleaned a cv axle. Tore it all the way apart. Nice shiny balls and all. Well I broke the inner circlip that holds the shaft onto the birfield. Thought nothing of it because I thought this clip was part of the kit. Well it's not! I had already started to reassemble and grease up before I realized I don't have this clip.

Anybody know the number for this circlip or where I can get one. The Toyota guy was basically telling me I'm SOL.

replaced radiator due to a leak i could not find for the longest time with a cheap napa one but with lifetime warranty . also replaced radiator hoses and radiator cap with oem ones and installed a new oem roof rack ! I'm excited

finally fixed and installed the new headlights.

You can't really see it, but also 'plastidip' an angry looking 'eye' lid. I don't know if I like it or not.

Plastidipped the grill, but probably paint it soon.

I really need to get me a new bumper.

Whats your insight on the fitment of the WeatherTech Cargo? I have the mats throughout, but haven't sprung for the cargo yet.

It could be slightly better on the very edge of both sides. I've used them in my previous four vehicles and never had much of a complaint. For muddy bike wheels and a hairy Siberian Husky I can deal with a little sloppiness at the edge. As a bonus the cargo area was not the cleanest from the previous owner, now the floor of the entire car looks great!
