What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Dropped my spare tire today and found out it only had 10 psi in it. Aired it back to 35 psi, good to go!

Also I mounted an Avec ultra-slim 31" LED light bar to the bumper. Looks great and is really bright! Pictures don't do it justice, but... front view, low beams, high beams + light bar

Can slide the seat all the way forward and back, not in the way of legs and it's right there.

Looks good, but dude Maglights are obsolete. Pick up a high-end LED torch and it will blow you away. I recommend FourSevens, Surefire, Thrunite, and Fenix!

Just changed my outer tie rod ends and brought it into the shop for an alignment. I'm hoping they find out why my driver side has a squeak to it.

After 384k miles, decided to replace the fuel filter. PB Blaster and my new flare nut wrenches were definitely my friend.

Also swapped my old center console for the 99+. Cupholders! Somehow, when moving the switches from the console to the dashboard, I managed to kill my back brake lights. Now I have to track that issue down...

Jesus that looks expensive, lol. Anytime I priced Dynamat I cringed. What did you use for application? Just curious as most kit's don't come with the little wood roller anymore.

I did an entire car using a cue-ball to roll it into the concave's of the body. For my 4runner I tracked down a little roller from my friend who works at Cartoys. Good work though, first stereo crank and you'll be glad you did it.

An eBay kit I purchased came with that little roller... But I used my hand for a lot of it...

Kit is $150......

I did my entire back and one passenger door so far and I still have 2 sheets remaining... Enough to do a second door........

But realistically I would like to do the floor and that will require an addition "kit"

So I'm looking at another $150 to finish the project ....

Maybe a little extra depending on how efficient I lay it down.

Tundra brakes are a great starting point. Don't be like me- go straight for the 231s. I put it off for years until I had my 3rd? maybe 4th, 199 caliper fail on me.

I wish I would've done the same. I didn't because I don't think the 231s would've fit behind my wheels. But I've already replaced one on each side so far. Pissed me off because even though they are lifetime warrantee the guy behind the counter acted like they should wear out after 4 or 5 years. Since when do the calipers wear out faster then the pads!?

The guy at autozone last time I I went did the same thing. Basically told me to pound sand when I asked about upgrading for the difference in price.

As I was about to explode, the regional manager walked around the corner and squared us both away REAL quick. I paid a very, very small amount for my upgrade.

I drove it in a bunch of snow today.

I have a question though, I have a 1999, with the "J" transfer case. 4wd engages quickly and smooth. But sometimes, when I put it back into 2wd, the 4wd indicator light stays lit up, and the truck stays in 4wd for some time driving. Other times, it goes directly back into 2wd.

Any ideas what the issue could be?

totally normal. As you drive forward in 4x4 the gears get meshed and sometimes a little bound. If the light doesn't go off right away drive for 10 feet in reverse and it will let go. Enjoy :hello:

Mechanical stuff is easy dude, its all about starting small, learning the basics and the little tricks then moving on from there. There is so much information on this forum and yotatech, etc etc for these trucks.

Boy do I know it. I hop onto this forum to take a break from work and I kill an entire night just reading. Even stuff I have no plans on doing lol. I'm gonna start looking into little things I can do and follow your advice!

Okay, thanks, I figured as much!

I've had my 4Runner for less than 2 weeks, and I already used it to pull out my Neighbors stuck Audi A4, we got almost 2 feet of snow haha. It made me proud.

Pads and rotors on 3rd gens are easy.

What he said. It was very easy. Just make sure you expand the calipers as far as you can before trying to put it back together. Gives you good clearance to put the new caliper and pads back on the rotor. Simple

Well, I lay my head down in Bellevue but I spend most of time between Issaquah and Snoqualmie Pass as I'm a mountain runner and rock climber. Bought the Runner to get me to more remote trailheads as well as going overland. Plus it's easier to sleep in than a WRX.

I'll be going with the 231's for sure, but good looking out. This forum has been very helpful so far.

Nice ride by the way! I love black ones. I'm sure I've seen it before, just can't place it.
