On the plus side, I didn't notice any performance loss so it's fair to say that the intake is pretty adequately sized considering I was down to about 15-20% space for air to pass through.

Are you trolling? Because that amount of soil in an engine would cause some very serious engine troubles. Not to mention your cylinder walls are for sure trashed. Plus there's no way that would get past a filter.

That looks like the air intake that runs from the fender to the air box....please correct if I'm wrong [MENTION=130208]Clayton74[/MENTION] ....
Actually, what did the inside of the air box and air filter look like? (curiosity kills....)

Mobil 1 5w-30 oil and Toyota filter change today. Greased driveshaft and u joints. First time they've probably ever been greased, feels a lot smoother.

Definitely not trolling. That's the intake tube leading up to the dirty side of the air filter. I was pretty frikin shocked myself. I cut my fenders (pics below) back so I had to ditch the wheel well liner.

My tires kick up mud like a no tomorrow. I figure the tires were kicking it up into the tube and I was descending some pretty steep mountains as well as did a few water crossings with water over the hood briefly. Same ride that I ripped my lower control arm. The other shot below is of where the tube comes through the fender.

My air filter was shot from a combination of the dirt and getting dowsed with water a few time during the day. I was really pretty lucky that Toyota was smart enough to build the whole intake tract going uphill from the air box. I pulled off the sediment trap on the intake tube downstream of the air filter (little "J" hook thingie) and it was full of water.

Guess I'll have to make a build thread some day, but my 4R is built just for offroading (but still mostly street legal).

Also this past weekend I did the valve cover gaskets to fix the oil leak, spark plugs etc. good 6 $4/ spent in the engine bay. This weekend itlll be cv axles and steering rack bushings.

Painted my fender with rattle cans.

Ebay fender was $60 shipped and was black primer. People said it wouldn't match and would have to be blended, we'll no blending and it looks pretty damn good to me and matches almost perfectly. The clear coat is badass and the best i've ever used. $40 for the paint and clear online. Couldn't find a desert dune fender anywhere.

Total for fender and paint $100

Still looking for a desert dune limited fender. This is a temp.

This was done on the truck in a breezy parking lot with masking tape and newspaper. The flair was off.

Insurance gave me a $3500 check, cost me $200 to do repairs. How you like my new bumper? Thanks insurance.

I used that Automotive Touchup Desert Dune base on my gate and rear fender after I scraped it up against a concrete pillar. Can confirm that it is a superb match, super happy with it and will certainly buy it again next time I need a color match.

Im confused by the question. I want to repaint my black hood to match my desert dune. So after the base coat of paint you add clear coat to protect it.

Leveled

I leveled mine out a bit:

First I replaced the stock 1999 springs with OME 906 springs and it was about 1 inch up in the back with no load. Then I had Bilstein struts installed on the 3rd perch and it was .5 inch up in the front!

Yesterday I added 1.5 in daystar spacers in the rear and it's back to 1 inch up in the back.

Finished the paint correction last night and finally installed new shoes on it today.

Level 8 MK6 16x8 +0 with Falken Wildpeak A/T3W tires.

It's weird that they still rub on hard turns and over big bumps. It's on stock 2001 suspension.

Much better than what the previous owner had on there.

New Denso rad, OEM thermostat set w/ jiggle valve at 6 o'clock, Toyota red coolant, new OEM hoses, ran white vinegar x2, then distilled water x4, parking on incline every time (to get the coolant to rear heater), came out almost clear!!! Denso fit perfect, and came w/ rails attached and ready to install! I used a very small amount of veg oil to help seat the hoses all the way on. Was running at 207f, now can't get past 185f, but have yet to drive a distance. Truly a labor of love, as all projects are on our 4Runners!

STILL can't get past 185 degrees, and it has been hot as hell here in Denver!!! Wished I would have done this when i first got the runner BTW I left the white vinegar in overnight for the first run after bringing up to temp.
