Installed my new LBJ's and then marveled at the driving difference1000x better!

Mine were shot to the point of lots of play, so I had jittery steering over bumps and wandering on the freeway. Not to mention the fact that they would pop while turning.
Now, all of that is gone and the front end feels so much tighter. Just from the balljoints, I didn't even do TRE's because they still felt firm.

Dropped my transmission pan and was very disheartened by what I saw. A think layer of grime, tons of grit, and debris. Really amazing that it was working so perfectly. Now I have to figure out what to do next...
Flush a few times?
I'm anxious of running >$100 of ATF through a tranny that might be doomed. Maybe just put that money towards a junkyard transmission that shows clean fluid? What do you think? Thanks for the reply, by the way.
This looks promising. Is the line bringing transmission fluid to the radiator the one on the driver side or passenger side of the radiator? That's the line I would hook up the magnefine to, correct? Thanks.
EDIT: Nevermind, I see now that you hook it to the return line.

I would hook it up wherever it's convenient. I also wouldn't flush your tranny. A lot of people report high mileage transmissions failing after a flush. I like the drain and fill method. You'll only get about 4 quarts out of the drain with the engine off. You and then fill through the dipstick tube. Use a drain pan that measures how much you drain out. I made one out of an old trash can and marked quarts. It is easier than a flush.

As long as your transmission was working fine before you dropped the pan I think your safe with a filter and a few drain and fills. If you want you can space out the drain and fills, like a month or two between each. You'll never get rid of all the old fluid, but it'll help a lot.

Yeah, I'm definitely staying away from transmission flushes, I've heard the horror stories. I've always drained and refilled transmissions on my old cars, but this one was just so filthy! However, it was functioning perfectly fine so I think I can save it with some drain and fills as you suggested.
Just spent an hour scrubbing the transmission pan and installing a new filter. Also picked up a Magnefine and will be installing that tonight as well.

Cool, I'd be interested in looking at them.
Also, don't discount flushes totally. I think a lot of the bad rap about tranny flushes come from people doing power flushes with those fancy machines.
I had a shop flush my transmission with one of those things and sure enough I lost a transmission a few days after. This was years ago on a 91 Suburban.
At 387,000 miles, I did a full flush including cleaning the magnets inside the pan and cleaning the filter/screen on my 4Runner. I used the transmission as a pump and I've had no problems since. That was about 19,000 miles ago.
I'm not advocating a DIY flush, I'm just saying not to discount them all together.
Plastic dipped my new 5thgen wheels last night and got some pics this morning. Now, before anyone dogs on plastic dip, as long as its done right, it turns out alright!
This afternoon while i had most the dash apart so i could run wires for a spotlight,
i started poking around with a little red button and an on/off switch from the PO. did some searching on here and i guess its some kind of alarm system.
goes to a big cluster of wires and a shock sensor :shrug:
