What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I started de-badging the rear emblems/dealer logo to paint/discard. I did the grill and front emblem last week. Now the rears got to match, then the fenders (de-chroming the truck), pics when I'm done.
And I put in my beloved Yosemite Sam floor mats!
Picking up a fuel line fitting tomorrow from the junkyard, to replace the one that I mashed up changing filter last week (yes, I used a line wrench). DO NOT F WITH FUEL LINE FITTINGS! Flaring lines in the engine bay isn't cool. AutoZone's fitting was too shallow, leaked.....What a nightmare....

buy a Toyota they said, really reliable they said...
Less than a week of ownership and I think (hope) the iac valve needs cleaning. Runs fine with foot on the gas, but won't idle at all.

No, no. You have to get two Fords. That way you have one to drive while your replacing the motor and trans. Then when that one's done start working on number 2.
My 4runner is the second Toyo I've owned. The first is my 88 Van with 325,000 mile on it. Not once in those miles did that van ever leave me stranded. Well, OK, once. But it was my fault. I tried to turn around on a dirt road and put the rears into some really soft sand. The guy that pulled my out was driving a Ford though. lol
I would say moog is just as good as oem. Replaced them on my 99 as well with 2 years of off-roading and no issues.

however I had the opposite experience. After 7k there was lots of play and my lbj boys were puking grease.
He is they came in regular packaging but they had moog part numbers and were supposed to be moog parts.

Don't you mean Fix Or Repair Daily.
Remember, people get rid of cars/trucks for a reason. As you, the said buyer, must hope, that reason won't impact your wallet and/or sanity too greatly.

Do preventative maintenance they said. Mine runs great at 203k I said.
Seriously this is simple. Do a tune up on the truck since you just got it. How many miles? If it's just a cleaning it's a cheap fix that'll pay for itself in MPG.

I bought my carpet from stockinteriors.com. Their carpets are reasonably priced and the quality is very good. The fitment of course was no where near OEM. Since it's an aftermarket carpet lots of trimming was involved. Just be patient with it and the end result definitely pays off. This is for sure one of the most satisfying DIY jobs I've done!

I know, I'm just griping.
Cleaning the iac and the throttle body now, hopefully that's all it needs.
It has 232,000 miles so I'll probably do the timken belt soon and at least take a look at the plugs.
Oil and trans fluid both look decent but not super fresh so will do those hopefully over the weekend so I at least know when to do the routine ones from here on out.

Search around here and find all the preventative maintenance you should do. Spend a couple hundred dollars and get all the parts and do it yourself and after that it's just replacing little random things as you go. These trucks are reliable or you wouldn't see as many as you still do 14+ years after the last one rolled off the line.

Finished up the clutch job in my 3rd gen. clutch feels so smooth. just gotta break it in and then head out for a camping trip.

Fixed Overheating issues.
Put in new OEM Radiator. OEM Thermostat. Flushed system with water. I need to drain and fill with coolant. Its a 1998 3.4L 4runner. Gonna fill with Toyo Red Coolant. Do you think 1 Gallon coolant topped with distilled water is enough?

mine was slightly more than 2 gal; 1+ gal coolant + gal distilled. it was annoying having to spend another 30 dollars for 1 quart of diluted.
btw ensure jiggle valve is at 6 oclock position.

Why not just run Toyota 4Life Red coolant Neat? I do.

STOP, NO, DONT!! If you are using Toyota red coolant(long life coolan/Super Long life coolant), it is already PRE-MIXED. So you need enough coolant to fill the radiator. DON'T DILUTE IT ANYMORE THAN IT ALREADY IS!
careful with the tranny pan drain bolt, lots of people, including myself had had to deal with it
