needed tires and "craigslist special" factory 2016 trail edition take offs cost what just tires on my 5 spoke 16's would have cost. Not the tires I wanted but a good buy and I'll just hammer em to and from work.

Brought the Runner into the 21st century with a Pioneer avh 5800 install, amped and subbed. Trying to figure out where to splice parking brake wire from stereo loom into constant power so DVD mode functions while driving. Otherwise, install was a breeze.

Mounted up a Craigslist special Defender rack, 4Runner- two-piece model, installed with the factory rail mounts from 4wheel. Mounted a 1in bar across the light tabs to accommodate a soon to be installed 40in led light bar. I did not want to bolt those mounts into the door jam, ouch.

Next up: new radiator. It's still the factory rad @ 128k miles but with regular coolant flushes there have been no issues, no milk shake ... Yet.

Take the parking brake wire from the stereo harness and splice it into ground. This will only work for some players but it easy and worth a shot. If that doesn't do it just get a bypass coil from amazon. They're pretty cheap.

Nice deck man. I just did a little research and Pioneer's AVH series uses a timed pulse for the parking wire. Grounding it will not work. My cheap Dual DV526BT has no such nonsense and grounding worked just fine. You'll need to pick up one these guys. Install takes about 5 minutes.

Thanks a lot! What a pal. You Saved me a lot of digging around through the archives. The deck is really nice, better than any I've ever owned, it is my first touchscreen/DVD. Figured I could afford it if I installed myself (the local shop wanted an outrageous amount). I only just tuned her up earlier today, can't wait for the drive home. First decree! It is likely a 170* thermostat. I was under the impression TRD did have one.

On the drive home it was 80-85 degrees out. Coolant was between 179-181. That seems more normal

Did you have any trouble getting to the fittings in the rear driveshaft, sepcifically the one inside ( dont know what the names are called)

some are easier than others.

there's a few write ups that show how many at each location and how to spin/rotate the shafts

Got tired of the boost leak at my TB and the old style MAF...So, I got a used TB, a used new style MAF sensor and a Spectre #9405 MAF tube...Re-pinned the harness , plugged it in and good to go. Hopefully no more boost leaks for a while.

Got my 60,000 mile 3.4 ordered from Cali so hopefully here by Monday/Tuesday and maybe by the end of the week it'll be back home. I got a $3600 estimate from my mechanic so still cheaper than a questionable used 4runner which was the route my wife wanted me to go.

I broke 200,000 miles in the '98! My wife's '04 isn't far behind. Technically it was Monday, but I keep getting distracted and forgetting to post.

Replaced spark plugs and wires. I think the wires were original, and I'm at 167,000 miles.

I was having an issue where after a rain, cylinder 6 would misfire until the car was warmed up.

I'm hoping this fixes it. I bought a coil pack as well in case the #6 wire is attached to a bad pack.

Surprising how long they last huh , I have near 400,000 KM on my original wires and coil packs ( touch wood lol ) .


I read somewhere on this site about that rain issue , can't recall where but someone's mentioned it.
