Got the factory stereo replaced with a pioneer that can do bluetooth and handsfree.

Ordered it from Crutchfield, as it comes with the stuff you need to install.

Easiest stereo install I've ever done.

Soldered all the connections at my bench, took out the stock stereo, brought it to the bench, installed the head unit and shelf to the old brackets, went out plugged it in, works. Magic. =)

Ok, the PITA will be trying to route the microphone wiring up to the visor for handsfree, but the stereo portion was a breeze. Have to figure out how to get that wrap off the driver side column (where the oh sh*t handle is).

much easier than you'd expect. I'd start with the mic in place and route the plug towards the h/u rather than plugging it in and then routing the mic, but that's just me.

should be plenty of "open" space behind the h/u to route the mic towards the "lower trim panel", (balls vent...). Removal of the lower trim panel is IIRC 4 8 or 10mm bolts? and two cables that connect the hood and gas tank latches, but you shouldn't need to completely remove those unless you want the extra room to work with.

once it's routed behind the lower trim panel, work the mic up and towards the drivers kick panel.

The hardest part will be removal of the A-Pillar, and I can PROMISE you that if you don't use an impact screwdriver (Impact Screwdriver Set with Case) you WILL strip the two philips screws holding the oh-shit-handle on.

Should be a handful of clips behind the A-Piller that should snap out easily.

Everything else should be pretty self explanatory, but let me know if you have questions

Edit: Realized I recommended the routing from the Mic-H/U, but described the process H/U-Mic. Just reverse. But it won't be difficult either way.

Oh-shit-handle screws have thread set on them heat them up and they'll come right out.!!

Finally installed some 35x12.5x17 BFG Mud Terrain KM2's on a stock 17" FJ Cruiser steel wheel. I have always been a fan of the black steel wheels and found this to be a great opportunity to run them (plus they are a lot cheaper)

I just sold the OEM rims and tires off my '03 Tundra base model for $260 to a local fellow who was outfitting an FJ. Had no idea how popular the 'steelies' are...

BTW: Your rig looks awesome.

Holding your soldering iron to the screw will soften the thread locker real quick.

That, in addition to your impact, will zip the screws right out.

I did this back in Nov - then returned it. Turns out the pioneer wouldn't allow me to use BT for the incoming calls,etc and allow a usb input to work at the same time. All my music is on my 250gb iPod. Even had the crutch field techs verify on their workbench with the same model. Shame. Might try the JVC again in the future -

Going to remove all the stock flares / mud flaps as the back is rubbing and possibly upgrade to some Bushwhacker flares. Getting some rubbing on the inner fender when turning but hoping the body lift will give some more clearance as it's pretty close.

If not, then I'll start planning on cutting!

This looks great man. The black steelies match the 4Runner really well. 35's just look perfect.

Although they're not on yet, I purchased a new set of 265/75/16 BFG Ko2 for $697 shipped to my door. This is the cheapest I've seen this set go for brand new. Found them on Tirerack.com on sale and will get them mounted and balanced at the shop next door to the firehouse for another good deal!:rockon:

Dang.. I've been leaning towards the Hankook Dynapro AT/M's just for the price (less than $500 shipped on Amazon of all places). But if you can get KO2's for that I may keep looking.

I just did this a while back and thought about doing but ended up mounting the mic just behind the rear view mirror. Then I used a trim tool to tuck the wire into the headliner all the way over to the pillar and down below the dash. It was super easy, is completely hidden from view and hasn't fallen out or had to get tucked back in once yet. Mic location works great too, I'm told its got great voice quality even with the window open.

Best advice I got on those is to tighten it a tiny bit, then immediately loosen to release the thread locker. Worked like a charm without and impact driver.

Would that fit in the lower valance of the bumper? Just cut out that center section and put it in. It would look clean AF there.

Installed a Pioneer head unit and replaced the wipers.
Changed the bulbs behind the defrost, ect, and rear window as they were burnt out. Hopefully do the accessory belts tomorrow
