I have not re-geared. I have not had much drive time on these things yet. Only like 20 minutes or so. They are nice to look at though. Having said that, I like 265/75/16s just fine. That is what I am most used to though. With 265/75/16s I didn't have any rub, the speedometer was accurate, acceleration was good (for an SUV), and I could fit a full size spare underneath the vehicle.
The 285s will have to earn their keep. LOL. I think it might be one of those things where you can look at a million pictures, read account pros and cons, but for me, I think it was just something I had to check out for myself. So I am giving it the old college try.

I have the 265/75 and I don't regret it at all. Still drives the same as the 265/70 and fit my 3-4" lift (toytec/bilstein-up front / LC 7.58 wraps in the rear). Although I'm not a fan on super wide tires, I'm curious about trying out the 255s in the 33" range. much like the 285s, I'm worried it'll dog her down.

I put some on last weekend and as far as looks and driving go I'm loving them.
I had an extra 265/75 laying around and had it mounded on the spare and it fits but just barely. I had to let some air out and it's wedged against the track bar and I'm not too sure it's not interfering with axle movement some, I'll probably pull it out soon and see if I can determine what exactly is amiss.
Best I can tell searching the forum it's hit or miss on 265/75 spares fitting neatly. Most fit I assume, some claim they are fitting 285/75 under there...so I'm puzzled. Maybe it has something to do with the trailer hitch or the specific tire.
I know I can't fit my 265/75/16 KO2 spare under there. It wasn't even close unless I let a lot of air out. Which is a bummer because I'd really like to store it under there instead of in the back.

Interesting.... I was under the impression that 265/75 will fit with no issues. 285/75 was a no go. I carry a compressor in my truck all the time, so i may inflate the tire to just 15-20 psi. Hopefully it will fit. This was one of the main reason the went with 265/75 instead of 285/75.
this is so wrong, I broke the bulb pulling out of twist in piece and O'Rielys did not have in stock.

and I broke one of the snaps on the second removal of the dash plastic, going to find on-line and order bulbs.
the control knobs are bad in the cold, like you twist and it doesnt move the temp or fan speed
may buy a new whole ac/heater controller, if they make them

I can fit my 265/75/16 BFG KO2 under the vehicle. I think the determining factor might be the particular tow hitch you have. My mounted tire does not interfere with my pan hard trac bar, and I am using the larger SS bar vs. OEM.
Have any pics of your hitch and or fit?
Here are a few pics showing my hitch and tire clearance.
As you can see in the pics, my tires is almost, if not touching the main body of the receiver at the insert area. Tire clears the sides. Tire clears the rear area pan hard trac bar. I haven't tried to put the tow hitch receiver in to town anything, but as long as it doesn't insert past the hitch body, it should not interfere.

Thanks for the photos, first thing I can see is your trailer hitch looks nothing like mine. I think, maybe it's the angle but I'll look again. Mine seems like it tucks under the bumper more and tapers out in a really wide V to the frame.
I'll try to get photos of mine later. Mine is touching the panhard bar pretty snug. If I loosen the cable I'd have to do some tugging to get it to fall down.
If I were to guess though I bet that tapering back hitch is throwing the tire forward. But still, a 265/75 is only 1" taller than stock.

The above pictures are the factory hitch - which is what most guys here have and what will normally be used as a 'will it fit' standard.

So the easy fix if you are happy with your 265/75/16s, I would get on Craigslist or grab one from a pick and pull and swap them out. I know the style you are talking about. I know your style has a out-of-sight advantage, but the advantages offered by the more standard hitch are, in my opinion, worth it for sure.
Besides being able to mount a 265/75/16 spare, the body of the hitch is fairly robust. Often when you get rear ended, it is the hitch that takes the hit instead of the bumper or body, maybe not all the time, but enough to more desirable than some other options or rolling without one.

Interesting. I'll have to crawl back under there and see what's up. Maybe my hitch is aftermarket? I don't remember exactly what was hitting, but I know I messed with it for way too long trying to get it up there...

Found some light mud, got a friend stuck/unstuck
Drove the half hour to the closest BLM land with a friend and my brother. They both have 2nd gen Tacos, and my brother recently got finally got his ARB bumper and OME suspension lift installed, and I finally got my ARB bumper and awning mounted. My friend's from San Diego so his Taco is a stock Prerunner... he managed to get stuck in some dry grass (damn Californians... just kidding!). I hope to buy and install an OME lift on Hugo within the next few months... Anyone care to share a get-rich-quick scheme? :doh:

Do you recall the OD of the bolts themselves and not the bolt heads?
I'm thinking about replacing my heims with johnny joints but I'm in camp for another 2 to 3 weeks and can't get a measurement myself.
