What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Do you recall the OD of the bolts themselves and not the bolt heads?
I'm thinking about replacing my heims with johnny joints but I'm in camp for another 2 to 3 weeks and can't get a measurement myself.

sorry I don't know for sure I didn't measure them because the kit allows the reuse of the stock bolts. but I would guess that the uppers are 12mm and the lowers are 14mm. Thats one of the nice things about Front Range Offroad is that the missalignment spacers are custom I believe so you don't have to modify your mounts at all.

Today I inherited my fathers 3rd gen. After 784 post and 2 years on the forums. I set out to help my busy dad and learn how to take care of his two 4runners. last few years he really didn't have the time to take care of them. I came from not knowing what a caliper was, and through the help of this forum I was able to salvage them to very safe driving conditions. His 3rd gen frame is borderline, But it shouldn't get worse with all the fluid film in his car's frame.

He really had a fun with his 3rd gen. from Driving us around safely to many american express disputes from the dealer who tried to **** around with the wrong guy and not do work correctly. to getting nearly 30 % off MSRP on our 4th gen, to getting two men behind him at the dealership to intimidate him to pay for repair that was not done right.

The car was always going to be our beater and home depot car. Going to give it around 6 months. But I'm probably going to do the best possible restore I can on his car in his memory.

Used a stripped lugnut removal socket - out with the 4 original locking lugnuts - nobody is stealing my 15 year old wheels! Of course this is after i paid McGaard the 12 bucks to send me a replacement key: the replacement stripped out at the first sign of tension when trying to break the lugnut free! :doh:

What did you do to your 3rd gen today?

Put the finishing touches on new wheels and tires for my sons truck. A while back I found a new, never mounted set of Koenig Countersteers on Craigslist for a good price. Added new 265/70/17 Cooper AT3's. And today, EBay TRD vinyl stickers for the centercaps.

More on wheels, 16" OEM wheel weight

I am looking at off road tire and wheel options for my 4runner, and do not want to add too much weight over OEM. I pulled off one of the wheels and weighed it on a bathroom scale, which reported the tire+wheel weight to be 58.8 lbs. (I did not let the air out... not sure if I should have...?) I currently have dealer-installed almost new (less than 2K miles) 265/70R16 Ironman RB SUV tires that the manufacturer specs at 39.5 lbs. So that means my alloy wheels weigh in at a paltry 19.3 lbs?!?

I uploaded an image of the wheels on my 4runner for reference. I am seeing these parts numbers added here in case someone is searching for this wheel info:

Rolled over 262k miles.
Replaced passenger rear interior door panel with an undamaged one, replaced the rear seats, put on a roof rack and washed it

Found a great 1999 clear OEM pass. side headlight & signal combo for $28 at a pick-n-pull. Driver's side was smashed.

Nearly took the front grille too, but mine's not in bad shape.

Oh, and WHY on earth would someone have sawz-all'd the tie rod right in half? Is that the easiest way to get... anything... off? The caliper was still there, and one of the rotors was also cut, nearly missing 1/3rd of the round, and that caliper was still there, too. Weird.

The rest of that thing was pretty well scavenged and it's hitting the crusher Monday, glad I got a light off it. One to go.

I wouldn't mind the 99+ headlights but im afraid of not aiming them correctly.

Flushed and filled the transmission 3 times. It looked like oil coming out PO much have never changed it.

Its been a really f'd up month......

So in the last 2 weeks:

Replaced the front UCA's.
Removed the ADD tube and shaft from the front diff.
Removed a broken CV spline from said ADD tube/shaft. *muttered cussing*
Reinstalled aformentioned ADD tube and shaft.
Replaced outer seal in ADD tube.
Installed new Passenger CV Axle.
Fluid Changed front Diff.
Replaced Power Steering Rack ** *muttered cussing*
Flushed Power Steering System
Removed Front Sway Bar **
Remove, Sand, Prime, Paint, BudBuilt Skid Plates and Reinstall.

And I still have Rear lower trailing arms to do.


** - To those of you with 3" lifts saying you DON'T need longer sway bar endlinks. Go eat a f'in bowl of d***s. At full droop, my sway bar would HIT the inner tierod ball joint. That ended up tearing the boot. Which proceeded to fill the rack boots with muck, until the inner tierod ball joint smashed all the gunk into the seals and destroyed them. On BOTH sides. Had I not broken an axle and proceeded to tear it down... I'd have never known till I LOST power steering. (Apparently the boots did a great job NOT leaking in my parking spots). Yeah, I wheel the shit out of my rig. Def not a mall crawler.

Soooo glad the last two weeks are over.
