It's been a busy week. New Bilstein 5100's with 2" lift Tundra/OME 906 coils. Running boards removed along with transmission, transfer case, and rear diff drain and fill.

Today I took a little trip to the Pine Barrens, Wharton State Forest. Had a blast ! So this was my first time there. I went to Atsion Office. Picked up a map from them. They showed me the trails that are "legal" for off roading. But in no way should you rut out the trails. It's simply for the scene! If they catch you making holes and abusing the trails you will get into trouble! So I met a Forest Poilce officer. Who was very kind and kind enough to show me around Wharton. He took me to Apple Pie Hill, Batsto, Washington.... No better person then the actual park police showing you around the forest. After a while, we split up.

Fallowing him...

Washington Area, long long straight road.

Apple Pie Hill

Firewatch Tower at At Apple Pie Hill

Batsto Office/historic village. They have snacks, a small museum and hiking trails.

So later we just started exploring. And from what the Forest Police officer told me. Is that, any trail that leads into the woods from a local road, you are allowed to enter legally. Unless there is a SING THAT STATES OTHERWISE. Its simply, pay attention!

New sport hood, going to sand it down and put on spray on some rattle can primer so it doesn't continue to rust.

Primer is porous by design and it will continue to rust. Need to seal it with some kind of paint, and you can sand that prime it then final paint later.

3 belts and an alternator , oil / filter change and a lube job and finally a new york state inspection. First time I have had the truck to the dealer since we bought it 2 years ago. Pretty happy with it, nothing has gone wrong with it -124,000 miles so i took it to the dealer so the techs could go over the truck. I think its a keeper. The wife smiled ear to ear when they said that it was a super nice 4runner inside and out.Its good when the wife is happy. My bill was $690.00 but hey i got a free inspection on mine, ha ha

How high did the water get? I'm always afraid of water sipping through the doors.

You watched the video right ? I'm going to say way above rocker panels. But because I kept moving. Nothing went inside. Although I love water crossing. I hate it to. That's probably as high as I ever would attempt

Yeah, watched it. It looked like it was higher than that. I feel the same way about water crossing

Water pump on, t-stat in and jiggle valve at 6 o'clock, timing belt on, heater control valve replaced.

I used a 4 seasons heater control valve. StreetCreeper NOT impressed with its quality. We'll see how long it lasts, there's always a couple of hose couplers in the tool box if trouble shows its ugly face.

My 21 year old Toyota heater control valve is still in decent shape except the lip on the left hose nipple is gone. Missing. No more. The part that's left looks a little crumbly, hopefully the bit that disappeared doesn't become an issue. Explains the minor coolant leak there.

LittleCaesar just messin' with you, assuming you were doing the same. If you weren't don't tell me.

Schley tensioner tool in action....if you use one compress it slowly, only turn until it's not easy, wait a little, do it again. Takes awhile but you'll avoid breaking the tensioner pulley bracket. It compressed pretty far before the pin would go in, as illustrated.

Today I replaced the transfer case and front and rear differential oil. It is really nice to work on a car without rust! I did have trouble with the drain plug on the front diff though. I tried using 2 different impact guns and the largest breaker bar that I have, and it wouldn't budge. I ended up pumping a little over a quart out of the fill port and figured that that was good enough. I also extended the rear diff breather! I would say it was a pretty good day!

Stupid bolt!

I stripped the front diff drain plug bolt today on the 4Runner trying to change the fluid (I just got the truck and have no idea when it was last changed. Based on the rear fluid I'm guessing not recently.) Any suggestions on how to get it out are welcome!

That's good to know! I was looking at mine the other day and it doesn't look too bad actually, I think I might leave it be for now, but I def need to change the hoses back there – I've got a small leak too.

So I can't recall all the details about timing belts but don't you only need the Schley tool if you are not replacing the hydraulic tensioner? Is there not a need to replace it each time?

I was wondering the same thing. I have the same tool but only pulled the grenade pin once after I installed the new tensioner. Did you not replace the tensioner?

I'm about to change a hose clamp on the intake tube. Had a lean code few days ago and noticed the hard plastic tube leading to the rubber elbow at the throttle body easily slid loose, changed that clamp yesterday and now the other end to the air box slides loose too.

Supposed to hit the 60s today so this wrenching sesh may snowball into a combustion chamber cleaning, spark plug + wire change, and oil change LOL...also have some stuff to do on the 4th gen though

Got my driveshaft rebalanced after some fresh new U-Joints caused a 60+ shudder. She's all smooth again.
Oh and also spray cleaned my whole motor. Looks so fresh and new now.. :yo:

Yep, just a little verbal ribbing in good nature.

I had a friend years ago who went with the 4 seasons heater control valve. It worked for him for five years and was still working when he sold the 4runner. I see OEM ones on Amazon for $55 now and then.
