What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Changed out my rear brake shoes/hardware, new Yota drums and new yota wheel cylinders. While I had the tires off I rotated them as well.

Ran some Russell speed bleeders for a one person bleeding and I think they worked pretty good! Have seen good reviews and also some bad. Pedal feels firm and the brakes work good. Think I need to bump the drums up by a click on the adjusters, but going to break them in some first.

Tomorrow I will do the front Russell bleeders and replace my rear driveshaft. Also will do new Moog rear swaybar endlinks as I found mine were bad. Went with some Moog as my rod end units are not done yet.

Today's pick up, rear seat hinge covers, cargo cover, radio bezel (not a big fan of the fake wood trim), driver seat belt.

*disregard my ugly driver seat. Been trying to source a good pair but they're near impossible to find so went to a upholstery place a fellow member went to get a quote. Not too bad of a quote but would have to do a seat at a time. I have other things to get worked out before tackling that. Need to overhaul the suspension and give it a tune up first.

I only had a pair of bushings so I ended up just doing the upper pair on the shifter mount. I really didn't feel like crawling under to unbolt the linkage, and didn't have enough bushings even if I did. I observed a lot of play in the next link so they are obviously shot there too.

It tightened up 1000x better than it was- not loose at all and it engages the P sensor every time now. I'm not sure I need to do those??

I'd say don't mess with it until it bugs you again.

got the rear end re geared to 5.29 and got the wheel bearings and axle seals done since they were leaking. now gotta save up to get the front done. barely picked it up. will post up how i feel with it on such low gearing. i have 285s.

Thanks brother, I'm jealous of all your armor lol I really want a gas tank skid, but that'll have to wait till after I re gear the front and get some billies up front.

Between last night and this morning I did new steering rack bushings, new sway bar bushings, upper and lower ball joints, new front rotors, transfer case fluid and replaced the fuel sender in the fuel tank to repair the fuel gauge. All of the maintenance is pretty much done and up-to-date so now I can think about doing some fun stuff. Should have the CB installed by the end of next week just got to get a few parts. It drives like a champ now.

I used [MENTION=98153]MStudt[/MENTION]'s LED thread (on mobile so I can't link correctly), and that shows which bulbs you need for each area based on the year you have. If you look in the stickies you'll see the FAQs and tutorials thread which has the link. I bought the LEDs from superbrightleds.com.

Finished up the sound deadening. Also took it out in the desert to tune the new amp and speakers. I figured the neighbors would thank me later. After about 30 minutes of playing with gains and high pass for the front the sound stage is perfect. It sounds like it's all right in front of me.

Then I busted out the decibel meter on my phone and cruised down the highway with the tunes off. 70dB at 80 MPH. It's a huge improvement and well worth the time and money I put into it. The only downside is it's quiet in the cab to the point that I can hear every leaking door seal. I'll address that issue in the future.

With that test done I turned the tunes up and bombed some dirt. You don't want to know that the dB meter hit on that. lol

I replaced my brake pedal rubber cover. Said OEM via Amazon. Fit like a glove, but with an updated sporty traction pattern. I noticed a few days ago my old one had come apart on the right side and the rest of the rubber was traveling West. That would simply not do.

I also picked up some Harbor Freight 6 ton jack stands, and a low profile 3 ton floor jack. Before I open it up, what height floor jack are you guys running for your lifted 4runners?

And..

What do you keep in the car for non trail tire changes? I thought about having a Hi-Lift jack, but only used with a jack stand for safety. I just wondered what you guys are doing.

I did see a (safety jack) some sort of high speed expensive bottle jack with high speed / low drag attachments and a bag for big money, but was wondering what else were people's go to for tire change.

Solved CEL

Solved my CEL p1700 #2 Vehicle Speed Sensor... used one of my front ABS wheel sensors and wired into the ECM where the VSS used to plug in. After i swapped from Auto tranny to a 5-speed i lost my vehicle speed sensor and kept throwing a code. No more codes

This is the floor jack I'm using. 3" lift all the way around and it lifts my 265/70r16s(not for that much longer) off the garage floor by a few inches. Yes, it's cheap. Yes, it's made in China. Yes, I've had it for over 10 months with zero issues. It lowers super controlled and hasn't leaked an ounce of fluid.

On the trial I carry a Hi Lift. Just know what you are doing and learn how to use it BEFORE you need it. They can bite but it's user error that leads to the horror stories you hear associated with them. The air jacks are pretty slick and if you already have on board air that wouldn't be a bad choice. They are expensive though.

Did you even lift?!?!?!?!?!?! Those wheels look pretty stuffed into the wells, how did you manage that without rubbing? What lift and tires?

just wanted to see how it was going to look like on the new wheels, took them off and put the stock wheels back on lol. still waiting on my rear king shocks to come in, then ill install my lift

It would have been a lot funnier if you didn't correct the autocorrect...

Maybe I'm missing something but with bigger tires the axle is only raising a couple inches max. over stock height so I don't see why the included bottle jack won't work for flat tire changes on the road. Just bring along a short 2x6 and put it under to raise the bottle jack up a bit. Obviously don't go under the car in this situation but why would you to change a tire.

Lifted a friends T4R

Replaced plugs, thermostat, and alternator belt

Decided to replace my plugs with the IK22's, went with a cooler thermostat,and a much longer alternator belt.

Seems to run a tad bit better. :dancin:

Plugs were looking good and showing signs of a solid burn for an engine with 350K miles plus. Pistons looked good. Compression was solid.


So I replaced plugs with the IK22's and a 170° Stant Thermostat. I also replaced my short alternator belt for this long one.


I like the longer alternator belt. For some reason, something feels different.

Found a good deal on some 2002 headlights, and I figured since I had the grill out I should satoshi it. Used some gutter mesh I bought at lowes.
