What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Cleaned the MSG and TB. New OEM PAPER filter (Had a K&N). Removed my stock fuel tank skids, remove the surface that and repainted it.

I'm also going to be ordering brake lines from wheelers. Have you done the fronts already?

I did the front about a year ago but never got around to the back until now. The fronts are much easier. It's tricky getting access to knock out the retainer clip in the rear. And a proper 10mm flare nut wrench helps a lot, and a 5/16 vacuum cap to put on the line to stop dripping. Probably worth replacing the bleeder valves while you're at it, one of mine was clogged up with rust/dirt and wouldnt bleed.

There is a new '97 Limited accident wreck at the wreckers this week so I stopped by to get parts for two mods. One mod was super easy, the other was medium easy.

I pulled off the passenger side grab handle and put it on my driver side. Usually the screws are super tight but these ones were actually loose. You can feel along the fabric on the drivers side where the depressions are from the two existing holes. So all I did was make a little hole with a razor blade and screwed the new one in. Done.

The other mod I finished was the power antenna disable switch, see here. I picked up the ECT ("eject") button from the wreck and hooked the multimeter up to it. It turns out that the black/yellow and green/red wires are the ones that switch on and off in continuity. So I just hooked those up to the wires I ran back from splicing the blue wire in the antenna harness behind the cigarette lighter, and put it in a blank spot in the center console (mine is manual transmission so I don't have an eject button). Done!!! The only thing wrong now is the button says ECT so I wonder how easy it is to re-letter it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I also took the rear window up/down button which I hope to wire into the hatch door as described here so I don't have to go to the front and turn on the ignition every time I want to adjust the hatch window when sleeping in the back.

This 4runner was hit pretty hard in the front corner and the damage went all the way down the side to the back. I was talking with the wrecker guy and he says that's nothing and pointed to another car sitting nearby, a TOTAL wreck. The car was literally bent in half 90 degrees. The front seat was in the back. Makes you realise the sad history of some of these salvages... they aren't fender benders.

Washed. If the weather holds up I might catch up on some overdue small projects. Pinch welds, extended breather, fuel filter... who knows...

I think I have gotten used to these 285s. Somehow they feel a bit more plush than the same KO2 in the 265/75/16. My finger has been hovering over the buy button for the 4X Innovations rear swing out.

Rear 4xinnovations bumper was contacting the pinch welds and had slight rear fender well contact from my 255/85/16 maxxis big horns installed on fn wheels 5 stars so I picked up a 1/2" body lift from 4crawler and popped it in today. Only took about an hour and no change in hardware

I love those color combinations you are rocking! Have you swapped out the rear body mound for Sonoran Steel body mounts? Most people running 4X Innovations rear swing out swap them out to eliminate rear flex with that swing out.

Right on. Thanks for the advice. Bought a set of flare metric flare wrenches awhile back and they have been invaluable when replacing the fuel filter, o2 sensors etc.

Did some nit picky stuff.

Replaced denso air filter

Replaced a couple vacuum hoses. No more zip ties.

I ordered the hoses from Toyota, made in Japan, because I'm anal like that. And nowhere seems to sell metric hose that fits perfect. The Toyota one actually has different diameters on each end.

Also re-tensioned the accelerator cable.

Where did you get the hoses? Or what are the part numbers for them if you don't mind me asking

I put my VIN in to TOYOTA | Japan Parts EU to get the part nums then ordered from my favorite toyota place. I think Toyota sells lengths of it cheaper if you're doing a bunch, but I don't know the diameters or p/n for it.

What did you do to your 3rd gen today?

Bought antenna assembly for a taco antenna mod, lumbar switch, climate knob, stock suspension off Craigslist so I can replace the shot shocks I have, various clips and some leather seat covers for the meantime until I can get the seats reupholstered or replaced. It's slowly coming along.


Has anyone ever put aftermarket seats like recaros etc. I've found some after market seat rails on summits website but to sure about them.

Sold the methods and 285/75/16 KO2's and got some 17x8.5 level 8 tracker pros and 34/10.50/17 KO2's. The difference in height is minimal but I wanted a change. I'm happy.

Got the runner close to aligned, ride height needs to come down a bit, but it sure does ride better than with just coilovers and upper arms.
