So I finally got around to doing a drain/fill of my ATF and only 2 quarts came out. I was under the impression that at least 4 quarts were supposed to come out based on other threads I've read here and DIY videos on youtube.

On the bright side, the hard shift from 1st gear to 2nd disappeared after doing this.

I have a 2002 4Runner SR5 2WD. Any thoughts?

Just bought the 4runner like this. I put in a tailshaft housing to find out what was broken. Looks like it needs a transfercase. It drives, but it's making lots of noises!!

I removed one of the rear door panels to see how I can replace the section with dog bite marks from the PO, up around the lock/unlock knob. This dog really wanted out, he bit all 4 door door panels in that area. Looks like I'll have to replace the whole thing though, the panel doesn't look like the different sections come apart easily, they are plastic heat welded together. I guess I'll do away with the cloth trim and go for the Limited cladding, should be easier to keep clean. There is that wrecked Limited that is in the same colour as mine but only the passenger side panels are good.

I had a real bugger of a time getting the handle off, that green plastic sleeve clip thing that keeps it on the metal linkage bar to the latch just wouldn't budge. I had to pretty much destroy it. Any tips?

Just rotate the body panel 45-90° after unclipping everything and the handle just slides right through the opening without even having to remove it. Same process for reinstalling it.
Sounds like you made it more difficult for yourself. Lol

You need to get a build thread up for the new Runner!

I'll have to start setting one up again once I finish up with the suspension. Didn't think I had enough to start one yet. I'll definitely try to put more time and effort into it this time around.

I'd like to compare notes once I get mine put together. I'm going to run the 861s and the 4th gen rears. I'm waiting to put it all together until the coils show up. See if our numbers are any different.

What did you do to your 3rd gen today?

Installed some pleather seat covers. I'm content for now. Still hunting for some seats in better shape or wait til I have saved enough to get them reupholstered. Just been really anxious to drive it. Been buying small miscellaneous parts and cleaning it up to make it road worthy.

Finally got my headlight cover/boots installed.. Been waiting on them to come in for almost three weeks. My local dealership had to order them from either Argentina or Peru.

Filled it with Gas, Last thing I fixed was the Front sway bar ends. I have done extensive frame repair and basically rebuilt the bad spots on the frame. They make Excellent work beaters...

Valve Cover Gaskets

Did my valve cover gaskets this weekend. They were getting bad and oil was dripping on the manifolds after a long drive.

Cleaned them up as best I could Gunk Heavy Duty, Simple Green, Pressure Washer and Scrubbing for an hour got them back to this.

Popped the end caps of the rails and pressure washed the pollen and gunk out. I can't be the only nerd that does that.

yesterday...oil change, ( synthetic) fuel air and oil filters (zz3), lubed the driveshafts, took a hard look underneath for preventative, no leaks anyplace, could use some sway bar links or bushings , everything tight, all fluid levels good in transfercase and diffs. ( those were all swapped out in October to synthetic) no wiggle in suspension anyplace ( most of that done last year)
then went and played on the logging roads, more are opening up now with the snow melting away but did drive through some snow.
headed out in a few to explore some more and see what shape they are in now ( mon and tues are my days off) then maybe come back to the lake (home) and go fishing
